Please Login.

I have seen this little popup window far too many times. When the site was first put up, if you closed the window, you would get logged out. That time there was a reason (sort of). Now, when I've been on for about 5 minutes, through about 8 windows, I get logged off. My question, why? You fixed it the first time, and then, there was an obvious reason as to why I got logged off, and you fixed it. But now it's just stupid. Having to log on every ten windows is getting a little annoying. All I want is a reason, or, if you're feeling really generous, a fixed website. (Note: I've had this happen on both Mac and PC.)

I have not been logged out lately.  Is this new behavior?  Has anyone else noticed it?

Make sure your cookies are enabled. I had the same once, it was caused by my firewall.  smile

http://i52.tinypic.com/5es7t0.png I know what you're thinking! "Neptune! Get rid of those filthy advertisements and give us back the Zarathustra siggy, you horrible person!" Well, don't worry about it, the Zara siggy will be back soon, new and improved! ^^ Meanwhile, just do what the sig tells you to. >.>

Re: Please Login.

I have not experienced this recently either. I only know that some people with a specific version of Java on Mac OS X still have this problem. But I haven't heard of anyone else. This is really hard to debug because it's hard to replicate. It happens to you, but not to me or many other people.

Re: Please Login.

well, for me it's easy to replicate on this mac...(23 times and counting!). The lifespan for me has shortened to about 30 seconds in some cases.

Re: Please Login.

It would be good to collect information from those who are getting logged out.
Could it be that the web site is relying on cookies to to figure out who you are and your browser is either not accepting cookies, or having them expire very quickly?

Re: Please Login.

The website does rely on cookies. The cookies are linked to a session on the server side. In the past, even though the cookie's expiration date was 2032, the sessions on the server were expiring every 15 minutes which caused this problem.

Now the sessions on the server are supposed to last 15 days.

However, there is a problem as described by boinoinoi, that I have not been able to figure out. It only happens on this environment:
- Mac OS X
- Firefox or Safari
- J2SE version 5.0 Apparently this doesn't happen when running J2SE 1.4.2.

I am really puzzled by this. I even posted it on some forums but I have not gotten any answer. My impression is that the request sent by the applet to the server to get the .sb file creates a new session on the server that kills the previous session. One problem of replicating this is that I don't have unlimited access to a Mac so it makes it harder to debug.

If someone has a good idea on how to fix it, we'll give you a Scratch t-shirt!  big_smile
