Here is an example
Three habits I've got:
I am in the habit of doing my homework without anyone telling me to (good)
I am in the habit of pulling out my eyebrows so they're like 1/6 gone now (bad)
I am in the habit of tapping faces on my poorly drawn mood chart at the end of the day (neutral)
The first is good, the second is probably some disorder,* and the third just doesn't matter either way
Now how can I just say all those habits are good, bad,** or just okay

So how about writing a very deep essay about how the world is a very complicated place and nothing is just black and white

No student may think, feel, or certainly turn in anything thought-provoking and/or deep (see citation 1) for actual credit. Any students not adhering to the rule may face a ten-day suspension.

Nah. Just some rule about anything original or different from the standards, it apparently is bad for our developing minds. Oh, and neutrality isn't allowed either.

I was about to say your school sucks even more than normal but then I realized it's true of my school too

No. CREATIVE WRITING WILL MAKE YOU A BETTER PERSON AS LONG AS IT CONTAINS NO CREATIVITY KIDS. It's amazing how anyone thinks that might actually work.

True, but our sources are supposed to back up our opinion :P. And I've only found one of those...(sources)

Trust me, it FEELS morally uncouth but it's the only way to write some papers.

My English teachers have always /encouraged/ me to write what was easier, and not what I wanted to

True, true. You know our school system is in a bad state when you have to write not according to what you think, but are restricted to 2 choices in theory, but in reality only one. Our school system is left over from the agrarian and industrial periods (as in industrial revolution  )

It's not just one answer.

It's actually three, because as long as you are persuasive I would say it's okay to write neutrally.

second of all, your school is even more idiotic because this has to be the most un-answerable writing prompt ever. its entirely based on opinion (which is fine), but with no opportunities to support or not support it with any tangible evidence. its not concrete enough.

if i were you, id write an essay about the absurdity of this awful prompt and schooling system you have along with the assignment and e-mail it to the superintendent.

there is absolutely nothing in my mind that connects habits to disaster, and there is nothing that distances it. this prompt is the equivalent of saying "how are shoes connected to nuclear warfare". there just isn't any real connection that comes to mind...

Yes. There is so much wrong with the american school system. It's a hundred years outdated (again, almost nothing has changed since we had an agrarian society like 100 years ago), if only they'd get with the 21st century... I fail to see any of their logic. I hope I'm not alone.

If only the American school system would get out of these ridiculous hundred-year-old habits and come up with something innovative. Our schools have become stale and dismal places where young minds are molded into dull squarish boxes, amidst a nightmarish tangle of dull pencils, grimy and dog-eared textbooks and droning lectures.'
