Just make sure that they are either a .wav or .mp3 format and music should work fine

If you are trying to import from iTunes then highlight every song you want to import in your song list.
Then, right click and press "Create MP3 versions" to make a compatible filetype.
Drag the new MP3 ones into the Scratch environment and your good!
(Also, this isn't SCRIPTS but actually a "Question About Scratch", I'll report it to be moved for you)

Make sure that the permissions are right.

MP3 files have been encoded by different brands of encoder, using different settings, compression etc. There is no such thing as a standard MP3 file.
It may be that your music has been encoded with settings that are not compatible with Scratch or with an encoder that plays the MP3 file but which has encoded the music slightly 'wrong' for Scratch to be able to read it properly.
Try re-encoding the music again with a different encoder and see if you get different results.

Well, it has to be a .wav file or a .mp3 file. Then, it will be converted to something like .mono, which is why sounds exported from projects can be reused.
Other formats, like .cda don't work.
