I would like it if you kept it from auto-sending. Only reply to commands sent to it.

Well, I guess that would help. Maybe make an admin pass so only you and me can turn it on/off? If I only let it reply to commands sent to it, it would be too inactive. With a bot, you can help people stay in the chat, possibly liking it enough to tell it to other people.
Anyway, most irc-ish bots do reply to things not sent to them, like bucket (from xkcd).
I could also make the bot smarter, ex. Turn on for a while if "MolyBot" is called, then remain inactive until you get its attention. (Like a real irc-er in a real irc (some clients make the channel name turn red instead of blue if the person's name is chatted (but that can't be here, because of your implementation (but it would be cool))))

Not sure how it would work, but you would need to disable the 5 sec autosilence, as the chat's (kind of) slow enough already.
