I really don't agree with people who say the work-around is easy. Well, in fact it is not that difficult. But its annyoing and takes a lot of time as well!
Just to add an idea: If you want to use diffrent Fonts in your projects, thats (26 * 2 letters + all miscellaneous you want to add) * Number of diffrent fonts. Thats a whole lot of work.
Not thinking about diffrent colors... Ofc there is a workaround. Yet another! >___>
And it's even more difficult if you want a consistent spacing between the letters. Else there is too much space for the i, to few for the m...
Lots of problems, one solution, though you might as well add "Size" and "Color" to your idea if you like.
Totally support anyways!

I don't support. What if it needs a font that is incompatible with other computers?
The paint editor at least in 2.0 right now has a set drop-down of fonts that are built in, so it could in theory easily be done with just that preset list of fonts.
I support.
When you mean "built in" you mean in the scratch paint editor? Well you are wrong. The font list comes from your computer, if you downloaded new fonts onto your computer, it will show in paint editor.

Color is easy to workaround actually, just use color effects.

You could just use a sprite with the costume of text and make it appear/disapear when it is told to. That's what I do. But this is a okay idea I guess.

Please dont randomly put scratchblocks into posts not needing them. Post test scratch blocks here: http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=90403 Costume of text wont work. He wants sentences made by other scratchers playing his game.
