hey scatchers! i would like to propose a new idea for scratch. has anyone ever been to newgrounds.com? if you have you will notice that every year they have the NG tank award awarded to the best game and best movie of that year. why not do something like this for scratch? it is a great idea and will motivate scratchers alot. also i tried doing this myself, but it got tiresome since it didnt get as much publicity as something actually done by the scratch team. if you do not want to do this then i propose another idea. why not get someone to do it and post the scratch awards gallery on the front page. that way people can enter and every year someone would win. it would be a perfect way to motivate scratchers. also it would be more official as the scratch team itself would pick the person. also i would be willing of course

maybe nominations for the awards? and a panel of judges from scratch team pick the final winner

they could have catigories like, physics game, roleplaying game, first person shooter and other types of game and animations
one basic thing is:
<when green flag clicked>
<forever>
<if><touching color[ green ]
<set{ fall }to( ((fall <*> -1 ))>>
<end>
<end>
just to show you something in a physics engine that i made.

yah i think the best categories would be best game, best movie, best other project (something like the whiz's programming language or an art thing or something.

This could turn out to be a fun event on scratch! That is, if the scratch team would accept it.

i'll try to get the scratch team to accept it, what i really need are more people to view the forum.

It sounds exciting but my concern is that it might be overly competitive for Scratch, given that Scratch is intended to be an educational environment.

yes this is what i thought might be the problem, the reason i posted it was because i thought though it was competitive, it was still something that greatly motivated scratchers, and a little healthy competition isn't so bad. i think more credit should be given to the scratch users, i dont think they would get extremely competitive if this happened, i think that mostly it would encourage the many members that arent sharing (more than 200,000 members) to actually help out in the scratch community, plus it would be a great way to make more people excited to go on the scratch website, and more likely to tell their friends. thanks for your input

I don't think the Scratch Team would want to get too involved in competitions or awards. In the past, other members of the Scratch community have organized their own awards and I think it went well. You might want to look at what they did for inspiration, perhaps contact the previous organizers. Here's one thing I found: http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=13971&p=1
If the awards seem well organized, are inclusive of different types of interests and skill levels, we might feature the thread and/or gallery used to organize it.
Good luck!

i did have my own awards, but the reason the system didn't work as well was because not as many people viewed it as i would have liked. could we organize something where you tell me how the scratch team would organize it, and in turn me and maybe a group of others (their will be alot of entries) could organize it for the team, and in turn the gallery could be featured. just an idea sorry i don't mean to be a bother.

if this idea is going to be known around scratch, there should be a link on the main page of the site, for example, newgrounds had banners and the top corner which if they are clicked the nominations or info for the awards will be shown. i think scratch should do this, the hard thing about this idea is having them being seen by the scratch administrators.

This is what I think: If we could get the administrators behind us, we could call it the official Scratch awards, and the the winners could be announced on the anniversary of scratch. There could be 2 general halves, art, and games. They will each be headed by someone who is good at what they are heading. In games there should be 3-d, simulations, shooters, platformers, RPGs, puzzles, and defense/strategy games. In art AMVs, Manga/anime portraits, sketches, user made music. I also think (with exception of the first scratch awards) the projects entered should be created After the last scratch awards, this insures that winning projects are not re-entered.
To further discuss this I suggest someone should make a gallery for us to talk about this in there.

this is well thought out, i talked to andresmh about possibly forming a team of scratchers that follow guidelines that the scratch teams would follow in order to create the awards, in turn i would like that gallery to be featured 100% of the time and for it to be the "official" scratch awards. i hope he agrees, as it will be an exciting new time for scratch.
