The mascot is a cat and cats scratch I think
(It feels writing "scratch" and not capitalising it)

They took "Scratch" from how DJs "Scratch" they're music, put them together, and then it's just a really great piece of music. And that's the way it is with Scratch. You get to combine objects, color, etc., and then it's a really cool project.

This is correct, mostly. The Scratch name is taken from the practice of "scratching" by DJ's. The reason this was chosen is because "remixing" projects in a core part of Scratch and is similar to the practice of remixing songs.

Maybe it was the other way around.
Someone named Oren Zuckerman came up with the name for the reasons Harakou described.

Time to bring out a Latin saying of mine.
Aestimans pariter, magnum adfert thesauris, sed seducens stultorum.
(Let's see if you can figure that one out. )
(PS, this is a +1 post)

estimating equally offers big treasures but seduces the uneducated?
That's the most I can get out of it with my extremely poor Latin + deductive skills
And I must say it doesn't really make sense... care to enlighten?
