copying other projects (remixing)

as you probably already know many people are angry about others remixing their projects making absolutely no changed and posting it again as their own, trying to hide the fact that they stole the project from somebody else.  nobody is ever going to remove remixing, and for good reason seeing as that is the whole point of scratch, share may also be implying that you share your projects with each other thats why its called share and not post.  so why not propose a simpler idea, why not just make the based on section have a little moee emphasis, like by placing it above the project notes section.  here is a project showing what it may look like, please take a look scratch team  smile

If two projects contain the exact same content, the user who posted the second one could be notified.

its good in theory, but a little hard to do, maybe we could just stick with this for now instead of making it too complicated

Re: copying other projects (remixing)

Should just have notes stored into the project file, like metadata of the original creator. And if you should import a project into your own it should import the metadata too. I don't exactly know how it works at the moment but all I know is that remixing is a problem when you don't want others to 'steal' your project.

So you are saying that the original notes can not be modified by remixers...but new notes can be added?  That's a cool idea too!

Re: copying other projects (remixing)

Or that lol. But I was thinking it would store data into the project file when uploaded, like notes but you can't see them. Such as metadata stored in a container in MP3 files. You would type in your name etc when you make a project and then it can't be editted. Or something along those lines. The above thing works too.

Well, the thing is, things have got to be allowed to be edited. It's just that the license Scratch projects are shared under say that it has to be editable.

I like Paddle's idea, though.

yah i with coolstuff, and paddle2see's idea sounds cool too, i still think the original idea of display gives even more credit to the creator, check out the project link i posted it really emphasizes it.

What happens if someone copys your project exactly but draws a couple lines and copys your description.

Re: copying other projects (remixing)

This was tried on Flipnote Hatena, but it didn't really work out.  I think that life, as well as Scratch, would be better if everyone was honest and considerate.  If people steal, they shouldn't get friended.  Scratchers should be responsible.
