If you guys would like, I could code you guys a website, with a customized FluxBB forum, where you guys can do all your private discussions, as well as allow others to comment and give feedback.
Just an offer. I have experience in web developing, particularly in the field of PHP and Mysql.

Hey DIY,
Sorry it's been taking me a while...teachers decided to dump a bunch of homework on the first day of school
Please excuse me if I'm going to get critical here. (I probably will ) No offense is meant whatsoever.
I have been looking at your songs, but I don't think we should record them quite yet. I'll explain why.
The Am song sounds a LOT like Ellipsis. I know the chords are a bit different, but even so, we're going to have to have a really interesting (and different) melody to make it interesting enough. It's a good start though
I like the idea of the D major a lot, but I think we should keep working on it. The combination of the piano and guitar will sound beautiful but it's really repetitive. I've fiddled a little bit with it, here Thoughts? This one needs a good voice part too.
I hope to fiddle with it some more, and we'll bounce ideas off each other, hopefully get techno involved, maybe jslomba and ContinentalRain, and hopefully we'll end up with a truly interesting song.
I'm not saying this to stall or slow down our recording rate, but I feel that since re-takes are so hard to come by due to our distance from each other, we should complete the songs as much as possible online before we record anything.
That also means we should figure out the vocal melody and make it prominent early on, because if a band has a vocalist, that vocalist must be the most important part of the song. That's what marks the difference between a solid band/song, and a karaoke jam session (which is fun too ) So we should give Mari somewhat of a spotlight, I think.
In a nutshell:
- Finish songs online (vocals too) and get approval from most of the band before recording
- try and make as many members contribute ideas for the song as possible
- Quality over Quantitiy. It's not the end of the world if we don't release a ton of songs, so long as we're proud of what we do release
Let's continue this conversation (I do think we should all talk about this more) on the forum ...I think it's only fair if the whole team contributes.
These're just bandmate-to-bandmate suggestions. I'm not manager or anything You can take them seriously, or not.
-hpotter134
P.S. I've started school this week. What about the rest of you? I assume jslomba has a similar school schedule to me, but what about everyone else?

^^agree with everything you've stated. We of course don't need to record DIY's 50+ songs as they're just that: Ideas that we must pick from to release on our first album. I'm actually a bit lost in these ideas, I'm not really sure what we're supposed to work on. The D Major song sounds great. c:

We're very aware that you're an experienced web developer, but we're not interested, as DIY has already stated. Myself, I believe there's no point in having a website (be it developed especially by you, or the quick webs.com site we got now) if people can simply listen to, and comment on our songs in our SoundCloud profile.

Hmm...I believe in being open about this kind of thing. We're not exactly a billion fan band, so I don't see the harm in letting the more curious fans see what's going on. And there's no point in having a band discussion anywhere but where the whole band can read it. I know you're manager and techno's leader, but I still believe that anything you two (or I, or anyone) discuss that's band-related should go on public display.

Hey, I totally understand I definitely get what you mean.
Love the edits to the D-Major song. I wanted to make some edits myself as well, so it wasn't repetitive. This is what I told techno, about the dynamics; it relies heavily on that to sound varied.
You're right about the Am Sad Song that it has similar progression, etc. Funnily enough, it sounds very different to Ellipsis in my head since I use a totally different tone when jamming myself, not the heavy electric feel.
You see, Mari has told me she is recording her own album, so we really can't afford to wait for her. Unless I can convince her to get a recording or too before winter, we are gonna have to wait until after the hols to get her vocal tracks in. That is why I decided on telling you to record some of my song vocals, and I shall handle the rest (since techno isn't much of a singer so he says).
I also understand you have a lot of homework on hand (just arrived from a long vacation and I have several months off, so no school yet).
Thanks for understanding, and I'd love to hear that Am Sad Song guitar track, at least a demo.
OK, DIY, I'm sorry. I was unaware of your secrecy Any reference to your solo work has been deleted

I've added three layers of electric guitar to the ending of Blissful Rapture, on top of Techno's demo, just to see what it might sound like. Thoughts?

Sent a comment through SoundCloud. I think it sounds amazing.

I just finished another song idea, based off of Flackback. I played around with it a little, and even added a trombone track (which I could record). If we decided to release flashback as a single, it might make a good B-side. What do you think?

I like it I especially like the verse melody, it's nice. It sounds a little too similar to flashback in the chorus though. We can either fiddle with it until it sounds different enough, or, if you want, we can try to combine some of your new ideas into Flashback One (it's up to you, really...we can try both ), giving the song a slightly different mood/twist. Good ideas though, keep 'em coming!

What's up with the 'Ersatz I & II' and 'Flashback I & II'? It is very rare for any band to have two versions of a song unless there's a vaguely similar reprise.
If you want to get an idea of what 'sister songs' should be like, I'd suggest you check out this song and this one of mine.
Anyhow jslomba, I like the song. We definitely can't put both versions in the album, but I'd prefer this one I think (haven't listened to the other one in a while and don't have time to do so at the moment). Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

Well, B-sides aren't usually included on the album. I was thinking that if we decided to release Flashback as a single, that might be a cool B-side.
And also, Flashback II isn't the official name. I just decided to call it that so it's less confusing
For Ersatz I and II, it might be cool to put Ersatz I on our current album and put II on the next one.
(And could you please update the song list?)

We aren't exactly a widely commercial band, so we rely on every bit of material we release to go into an album, even B sides. We can't just have throwaways, otherwise there is no point in the time spent recording.
I still don't like the idea of having two versions, whether in one album or not. When there are so many ideas to choose from, we shouldn't limit ourselves to similar tunes. Let's try to make every track sound distinctly different. It'd be better to pick out the strong points in each version and merge them as one.

I hope so.
EDIT: techno, did you check my e-mail?

Heh, of course... Forgot of the time difference here and in the US.
But seriously the track can't be delayed further (you said you'd record after you returned from vacation a long while back). We must keep the momentum up and going.

It's Thursday already and I really need the drum tracks for Blissful Rapture soon. I know that everyone (including me) has school work to complete and that it is not easy. However, I'm doing my A/Ls soon (AS next year and A2 the following summer) so if I'm coping with all that (which is loads of work) I'm sure you can handle the work you've been given. I know that no promises were made, but please bear in mind that I cannot mix at any random given time.

Hey guys, I’ve been contacting Mari (ContinentalRain as you’ll know her) over the last few days via Tumblr, but until recently I haven’t got round to linking her to our new songs since I’ve been busy discussing ‘Blissful Rapture’ intensely with her. She was however, the first person I linked the demos to I believe, but has finally checked out the final versions. The vocals for BR are on good track and I shall be hearing them soon from her. Here’s what she had to say about the releases:
Mari, in reply to Yavin wrote:
Sorry I didn’t get around to replying to you yet. I listened to the tracks, they sound good. I especially like the way Early December turned out
Will be uploading raw mix of BR soon but I still don’t have jsl’s drums. I’ve used a MIDI track and if you want this hurried up, please upload asap.
