I'm creating a website called Scratch Art Gallery where Scratchers can send me a zip file containing images, and I add it as a gallery to the website (because I haven't figured out automatic uploading yet ). What do you think of the idea? Also, is the name illegal because it contains "scratch"?

I think the name would only be illegal if you plan to make a profit from the website. Otherwise, I think it's okay to use, but you should still be cautious and post things on the site like "In no way are we affiliated with scratch.mit.edu..." and also include things like "all art is property of the respective owner and is covered under copyright" or however the official people phrase it.

You should have a front page with featured art and people can sign up and if they're on scratch they can upload stuff!

where is the site ?
I'm still making it.
@funelephant I've had the front page planned like that, but the signing up is SOOO HARRRDDDD, because of registration, and the upload thing. That needs a database, and a database needs to be coded, and that means learning a new language. I just can't do it.
@funelephant Yes! It's not an individual art website, it's where you share galleries. Like, "puppies" or "custom covers".

Okay
Maybe when you're better with database coding and that stuff?

Yup, putting a license in the footer in necessary.
Here, I think I've got a good one:
"Scratch is a project of the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab. We are not affiliated with Scratch, the Lifelong Kindergarten Group, or MIT. We are a fansite. All art is property of their respective owners. Website designed and coded by BirdByte."
That should work, right?
