Bbc Code

I think that in the next update of scratch there should be NO bbc code. For example instead of having to memorize the code to put in a link you just copy and paste the link or instead of having to memorize bbc code to change the color of text you just have a color change button where you post a message. Who agrees with me?

BBCode is the best way for that to happen and I believe it should stay

Re: Bbc Code

I think BBCode is easier for the Scratch Team to implement (well it's already implemented anyway) than a fancy post editor :S

This, and it's not hard to do. You just have to put {color=red}{/color}, stuff like that. I mean, seriously, let's not be too lazy  tongue
(Where I put {} I meant [], but I put it with {} so it comes up as text)

You should know how to make the BBCode show uptongue  (That's twice in 1 hour I linked there! Proud of me? JK xP)

It's very easy to know the BBCode. (Can't resist to the Wiki anyways.  tongue )

Re: Bbc Code

What you are saying is kind of unclear to me, but I can think of 2 things that you are trying to comprehend:

1.  Visual BBCode/Buttons. That reminds me of my old thread where I suggested a visual forum post editor. However, BBCode cannot go away. Everything that makes your text bold, italicized, colored is all code.  Also, making your text look the way it is visually in the post editor won't happen because FluxBB doesn't have such a feature- it isn't Scratch's fault. (The Scratch forums are based on FluxBB.) There is NO forum at all that doesn't have BBCode, no matter if it's based on FluxBB, PunBB, phpBB, or whatever. BBCode is the universal language of every forum. If you are unfamiliar with BBCode, you can check out LordSydney's BBCode guide to learn it- you'll find it's pretty simple after all. The official BBCode guide can be kind of confusing and can make BBCode seem like something tedious. (See, I had to use BBCode to make the link show and the text to "look different"!!!)

2. HTML and not BBCode- get rid of BBCode entirely. Well, most forums have BBCode AND HTML, not HTML alone. Also, HTML is much less straight-forward and harder for New Scratchers. And there are some big changes, such as:

Code:

<a href="link here">text here</a> instead of [url=link here]text here[/url]

and a lot of people would quit if they found it too hard.

So... I'm not very sure if this idea can be considered. Also, Harakou said something like this on my "Visual Forum Post Editor" thread:

Harakou wrote:

That seems to be a good idea... but I think forum modifications aren't the main thing the Scratch Team is working on. Scratch 2.0 seems more important at the moment.

I know how to, with brackets. I put it with {} so it would turn out as text when others read it. I put that in the end of my post  tongue

Re: Bbc Code

By the way, it's not called BBC code; BBC stands for British Broadcasting Corporation. It's BBCode, as in BB-Code.

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

No, to say [color=red]text[/color].  wink

Re: Bbc Code

if anyone wants to know how to put BBCode like [b]hello[b] in a post, you type inside the tag, like [co[b][/b]lor=#000000] [/co[b][/b]lor]

Re: Bbc Code

Whoa, what a necropost!

I don't think BBCode is going to go away anytime soon. Looking at the DjangoBB forum for Scratch 2.0, it's possible we might get an editor view for making forum posts, though.  smile

If you can't remember the BBCode, just make a Text file on your computer for reference.

Re: Bbc Code

It would be good to have that, but I think that having a color picker on the side that would give you hex codes would be good enough.

Two necroposts on the same topic by the same person.  hmm

Anyways,  this is in scratch 2.0, with the exception of colors, but the BBCode is still added by pressing buttons.
