I've seen some people put the word "bump" in a reply to a topic and nothing else . I wonder why, so if you know, please tell me.
Thanks!

Bump = Bring Up My Post.
When you post anything, it brings that topic to the first page of that forum, so it increases the chances of more people replying.

There is a rule however, you can only bump 1-3 times a day. To prevent spam of useless posts and such.

Bump does not stand for Bring Up My Post. It is what is commonly called a "Backronym" in that the acronym was created after the word.
Besides for that, LightFlash and sonicfan12p are right.

It looks like another way of increasing chances of getting replies is if atopic gets stickied. That is true I believe.

Should only be one: three times is often considered overkill

I've never heard of an official rule. My rule is "be considerate". I've never bumped more than once a day (I think, it's been a while since I've "bumped" at all). If you bump three times in half an hour (which I have seen), you should probably wait for an hour or two and actually give us a chance to respond!
I would say that, as a guideline, a limit of three times a day is probably a fairly good one, so long as you wait an hour between bumps.

I had to bump a topic 4 times in 8 days.

In other words, you could say "FUZZYCHEESE" and it would still bump your post.

But that would be spamming.

Well, there is a way to keep it up there without spamming neccessarily, delete all bumps and then post another bump. But you should try to at least wait until your topic is off the first page before doing that strategy. Or at least wait a day. So other people get the top spot.
