I've noticed quite a bit of people with their avatar as an animated gif of some creature who licks the screen.
Zorex, for example:
(I don't know if you guys can see it--it's in the url "/static/icons/buddy/".)
So... what is it supposed to mean? Is it an internet meme, or what? Lol.

It's just a fad.

Building off of what puppetadventurer, many scratchers happen to like animations like the one you posted, so they made them their avatar.

^What everyone else said above. It just happens to be a very popular design for an animated avatar.

Yus :3
Where the heck did it come from?!
I happened to do some quick research and I found this:
I think that the place where this came from is real life. In real life, some cats (and dogs) actually lick windows. Some dogs (unsure if true for cats) lick windows so much that you would think that the windows were made of gold. From there, I guess that people found this really amusing and someone decided to make an animation of this. After that, the animation became popular and someone on scratch decided to use it as their avatar.

Wow. I don't have any pets, so I had no idea.
I suppose this animation is used as avatars on other forums too, huh? Lol

For the record
that meme you used means to say something sarcastically and in a derogatory way.
Basically using that image implies that you already knew what has been said and DON'T need more information. Which is counter-intuitive to your goal.

Oh. Oops.
Todays actually the first day I've ever seen the meme. I didn't know it was sarcastic, lol.
