I haz a RPi now.  big_smile  More pics soon.

(Also, sorry about the bad pic quality. My brother had to take them with his iPod because my camera's SD card was in the RPi (and his bad photography skills mean that the card isn't shown >.<).

Congratulations!
I'm getting one for free from my school because I'm taking a computer course!  big_smile

And here in Chile the most we get is messing with Mindstorms NXT in a robotics course. And I can't even do so because of the protests.

This was posted with the RPi, from the comfort of my laptop, through the magic of SSH and X11 (PuTTY and XMing)!  big_smile

Mine isn't getting too hot because I mainly use command line.
I also wrote a program (and edited the .profiles file) that prints out "3.14159" when you type "pi".  big_smile

Re: Raspberry Pi Official Topic

The tablet being the harder of the two. You're going to need how to get coords from a touch screen etc... All you need for a laptop is a display and a keyboard  tongue

And the fact that even a relatively small 3.5" touch panel would cost several times more than the RPi (unless you want to buy in bulk, in which case the total price would even higher)...

I do have a small 3" composite-input screen from previous projects though, so i could try to use that  tongue

Re: Raspberry Pi Official Topic

I heard there's a competitor, with which you can get a 7" touch screen optionally for something like $50.

Maybe, but I wouldn't call it a "competitor". The RPi isn't supposed to be a top of the line device. It is meant to be affordable for people (primarily educators), and have an excellent and friendly community behind it.

Competitor, as in it's similar.

I can't find the article (I think it was on cnet, or gizmodo or something), but here's a touchscreen available for rpi.

I don't think so...

You know, after running Ubuntu ARM on my tablet, I don't think I'll buy the RPI.The operating system isn't as functional. Like windows 8 RT you can't run apps that have been compiled for x86, which is basically all apps  tongue

Re: Raspberry Pi Official Topic

But uh, compiling is easy. And if the 'app' is open source then what's stopping you from compiling it?

Re: Raspberry Pi Official Topic

But it's worth it... right?
Did you do an apt-get update?
The gcc compiler is available for the raspi I believe.
