Lol, just read over my report.

When you are reporting on stuff, please make very sure that you are keeping it appropriate for all-ages.  A lot of those comments were removed from the project because we did not feel that they had a place on Scratch.  We really don't want to see them showing up again - that kind of defeats the purpose, right?

Another area where you need to be careful is giving out the names of Scratchers in a negative light.  That can lead to hostility and fighting - something that goes against the Community Guidelines.

In the newspapers, reporters often need to tone down the material they report on to fit their audience.  They sometimes report on a story without giving all the details.  You need to consider doing the same sort of thing.

Right. Look, I have a family member that gets on. I was proud to tell them that I worked for a newspaper. However, I would just feel guilty to have them read this issue if it has this type of content. My opinion is that we need a bit of shaping up. I agree with Paddle2See.

Re: The Scratch Chatter Writing Offices

This coloring contest has now ended, but it has raised much controversy throughout Scratch. It all started with a simple coloring contest, but it turned with the first negative comment, which was the first one on the project.

A Scratcher said," This is creepy!". To find out more about the project and the comments, although some have already been deleted, check the project ' Bromance Colouring Contest' out.

An example of a negative comment was:
I don't care if you're ten or not, you shouldn't be homophobic. you shouldn't say that it's wrong if you don't know about it. because of your homophobia, i still hate you.

Another read:
people can have their own opinion, I'm okay with that, I'm not okay with people like you you who are homophobic! homophobia is not an opinion, it's disgusting, just like you! saying that bromance is creepy, is not an opinion, it's stupid and all homophobes should die! do you think i'm creepy for kissing another boy?

The names of the Scratchers who made the above comments will not be disclosed for safety and some other reasons.

Humhumgames, our reviewer, commented that she did not want to review that anymore, as many of the comments were harsh and were inappropriate for many Scratchers.

Edited version...

Re: The Scratch Chatter Writing Offices

Sorry if im reposting, but i just cant find it anywhere...

The Scratch Chatter>> Cover Story>> Community Guidelines

As part of the Scratch Community, you always have to remember that whatever you share will be shared with Scratchers of all ages, different countries and cultures, and lastly, different levels of experience in Scratch. So, always think twice before sharing or posting!

Below are some tips and advices on how to make this community a supportive place for every member.

Firstly, you have to be respectful. When sharing projects, posting comments, or replying forum posts, remember that people of many ages and backgrounds will see your contributions. Secondly, you also have to offer constructive comments by saying what you like about something and offer suggestions to make it better instead of critisizing a project or a forum post.

Thirdly, Scratch encourages remixes. Feel free to make modified version of other Scratchers' projects, but always remember to give them credit for it. Examples are in the project notes or in the project itself. Next, always keep your personal information private. Do not share your email address, phone number, or other personal contact information even if you know the person very well. Again, other people might come across it and do harm. Examples are prank calls and spam mails. And the worst thing that can happen is if scratchers live near you, they might stalk you and follow you home.

Lastly, do a part in keeping the site friendly by clicking the link that says "flag as inappropriate" when you feel that others would find a project or comment mean, insulting, too violent, or otherwise inappropriate and do the same thing in the forums by clicking "report" below a post.
Afterwards, the Scratch Team will review and may remove any project, comment, or post.

Re: The Scratch Chatter Writing Offices

Same thing, just lazy to find...

The Scratch Chatter>> Recent Collaborations>> The Bit Company

Formerly known as The Pixel Company, The Bit Company was founded by ftf841, and introduced to the Scratch Collaborations Forums on 23rd May 2012.

Specialising in mainly graphics and professional programming, it has already successfully created The Bit Company Operating System, also known as The Bit OS, which was posted on11th July, 2012, and can be located at http://thebitcompany.comli.com/index.php. They are also currently working on an awesome platformer game called Short Circuit, which is set many years in the future, where advanced technology can be found everywhere, so much that the earth has been renamed nanoteck after the company, Nanoteck, Ltd., which manufactures all the technology, and even humans are integrated with electronic parts.

The functions of the Bit OS are namely a paint application, a simple pong game, pixel art creator, and a professional near-perfect login and registration system

Below is the logo of Bit Company for advertising and other uses

Re: The Scratch Chatter Writing Offices

When I was told I am the reporter for the upcoming projects I suddenly started to know what to do here it is.

A lot of scratchers, such as Jonzo, are waiting to start making their big projects until scratch2.0 comes out. For example,Jonzo plans to do a Robot invasion part4. A project that should get into the front page fast.
other scratchers that are waiting to make their scratch2.0 projects are doing "small projects",some scratchers arn't doing anything at all.
We should be seeing some interesting projects as soon as scratch2.0 comes out, curators could have a hard time choosing projects.yes they will be that good.

Re: The Scratch Chatter Writing Offices

This is the Comings and Goings aritcle.

Many users come and go on Scratch. We're here to find out why. We are on a mission to interview New Scratchers to find out what brings them to Scratch and the Scratch website.

This is the interview KB1 gave us.

When did you join Scratch?
2012-09-03
Who introduced you to Scratch?
My brother, JH1010.
Why did you join Scratch?
Because it sounded interesting when my brother was talking about it.
What do you hope to do with Scratch?
I want to make good projects.
Do you have any friends on Scratch?
Yes
If you have projects, tell us about your best one.
It is called Space Duck. This was my first project.
By far, how is your experience with Scratch?
I have enjoyed Scratch so far.
If possible, name your favourite Scratcher.
JH1010

Thank you to all who gave feedback.

Re: The Scratch Chatter Writing Offices

(School started for me today. I already have homework. DX)

@ HumHum
I don't think It'd be a good idea to put such a risky article like that in the newspaper. Those with opinions on the matter usually have very strong feelings towards the subject, and when you combine a person who is supportive to the idea of homosexuality and another who is against it, without a doubt you'll have fights breaking out. Remember that Scratch, although it advertises as itself as being for all ages, is mostly intended for kids and teenagers. Involving ourselves in such a hotly debated real-world problem is likely to attract homophobes as well as anger homosexuals, as you probably have seen on the project. I think it's best to leave this matter to the adults to argue out.  wink

@ Spyderblade
Perhaps a banner with a gradient that blends better...?

http://i45.tinypic.com/256wpd0.jpg

(to be honest, I really, really don't like this banner. Not the one you made; I'm talking about the one above. There is something about it that I simply do not like.)

Zangooser and Paddle2See, and chongyian: I don't think I want the report in the paper. I opted out at the beginning but WingsGames pestered me. Sorry for any inconvenience, and anything inappropriate.
