i do have an idea! you can have a variety of plants for the hat blocks, dirt for stack blocks, the reporter blocks are worms, and the booleen blocks would be hexagonal ants with little legs

Re: Themed versions of Scratch!

Excellent idea, RoboNeo9!

Does anybody want to sign up for a "programming" job? So far, nobody has done so, and considering there is only one programmer (which is me, an amateur Squeaker), I could sure use the help.  tongue  I will need someone with understanding and experience with Squeak and the Scratch source code. apply within 5 hours of this post for 100 PTS pts

Since not enough ideas have been submitted for the contest to end (there needs to be at least 3), I have extended the Ideas Contest by 3 days. Good luck!

Re: Themed versions of Scratch!

Programming - that's me right there! Can I join? I'm not sure what type of person you would want though - I'm a cannibalistic get-it-done-in-any-way guy... Basically I use other bits and pieces of code to make something.

Also, an idea to go with the job. Maybe a patch for Scratch that adds some options and a folder called "Themes". I know that you didn't want a selector but I think it would make it easier to use, and more popular. It would come with the default theme, aka the official ScratchSkin, and you could drop a folder like "NatureTheme" into it. Then you go to the file menu (or maybe the theme menu  lol ) and then hit "Change theme". You type the name, eg, Nature and it will load the theme from the folder "[whatever you typed here]Theme".

Finally, I have photoshop on my Mac, but I'm not very good at drawing.

when gf clicked
tear apart methods
tape them together into something new
hope it doesn't blow up in my face

I tried to do that with my mod before, but I am not an expert at Squeak and I don't know how to get a list of files in a directory.

It is just a skin, the other bit is a patch, not mod.

Re: Themed versions of Scratch!

It is a skin, and the patch I would make is optional.

I had created a method last time i did this that is called upon in the menu. Basically at the botom of the menu, it calls my method, which thens looks at all the available files one by one, adding their name to a list. Once it's done with the list then it displays the menu. It makes it take longer to bring up the menu, but it works.

Dominic1, sounds like a plan!  smile  I have added you to the list. Is there any way I can contact you with the .zip for PTS Nature?

Thanks!

Also, if you use Dropbox, you could share a folder with me by searching for Dominic Marcuse.

I recently set up a Scratch Patch Repository at escratch.org/patch, and I was planning on adding a section for themes. Could I put the .zip there for anyone who wants to look at it, or should I wait until it's done?

EDIT: Changed my sig. I also made the pic into a link to this thread, if you want the code for that it'll be below.

Code:

how do you get this to work?  Every time I try to add a skin to Scratch, the program breaks and I have to reinstall.

Re: Themed versions of Scratch!

Are you using Scratch 1.4 or ScratchSource1.4? It only works with ScratchSource1.4.

I read through these posts, and this looks like a really cool idea!

I've never tried using Squeak, but I can definitely help with the graphics. How should I get started?  smile

Well, nice to see this has gotten a lot of activity while I was at camp! (again...)

As soon as the Ideas Contest closes, I will give PTS programmers the password-protected file on SpeedyShare.  smile

The mod is purely aesthetic changes. There is no change to the program, so they don't have to remove anything.

Smaller children may think of the second as a swear, but I am glad to do the first.

Edit: I have added this to the OP.
