How do you even get stuff patented?
You file for a patent in the US with a whole bundle of paper work and images explaining the patent your filing and claiming. It's a long and technical process, but the government has to approve it.

Who's the guy that let's "playing with your cat with a laser pointer" be patented? They should start making the system better.

Definetely. Although it's rather easy to simply say something is a problem...changing it is another thing.

How about the tree? Or the door? If they're not patented, they will be soon enough.

copyrighted, correct. Patented, I'm not sure.
Copyrights and patents are two completely separate things.

I patent the idea of moderators having a sense of humor. I'm gonna file it next week with Calvin's dad.
I'd love to try this on my cousins' cat.

Well, this is odd.
"Chicken glasses date back to at least the early 1900′s. In fact, United States patent 730,918 was granted to Andrew Jackson Jr. on June 16, 1903. Andrew’s patented chicken glasses were basically an early version of safety glasses for poultry as they were meant to help protect chickens from getting their eyes pecked by other birds in the flock."

Actually sometimes chickens can be really vicious and aggressive, especially the cocks. If you ask around you can hear stories of chickens eating chicks that get caught in the wire, and you have to separate sick chickens or they'll be pecked to death. Only if you have roosters though.

List of things that should be patented:

Dogs
Bob
Bones
Baskets
Letters

My fursonas
Fish

Yeah, I would patent my username, but you know, the paperwork takes FOREVER.

Believe it or not, two prime numbers have been patented. R. Schlafly got a patent on a couple of huge ones (150 digits and 300 digits respectively) because of their importance in encryption algorithms.

No, because both of my cats died
Do people count? For some reason, whenever I pull out a laser pointer, people try to chase it. Huh.
