PREVIEW:

Alone, by BigRedButton
Reviewed by gamer2012
Genre: Adventure

Alone is a game that impressed me from the title screen. That is because it has very awesome graphics and animation, which REALLY enhanced the experience I had.  It makes you feel as if you are in the actual dark-themed world. The game’s music suits the game extremely well too! Besides just having stellar graphics, Alone is also a really interesting adventure game. It starts off with you lost in a dark and mysterious world, unsure of your identity.  The majority of the gameplay is spent exploring the expansive world, and solving some small puzzles along the way. Alone focuses mostly on the first category though. While this wasn’t that disappointing to me since there was such a large world to explore, it hindered me from wanting to play Alone once I beat it. The story is also a large part of Alone. While it is fairly short and basic, it is still entertaining, especially at the end. One of Alone’s few short-comings was its programming. While the programming and sensing are fairly advanced overall, they can be glitchy at times, which is an annoyance.  The character’s ability to be dragged is a problem too because it allows players to skip puzzles.
Programming: 21/25
Graphics: 10/10
Design: 23/25
Gameplay: 17/20
Entertainment: 19/20
OVERALL: 90/100
Awesome game; I loved the graphics, but the programming needs a little work.

Re: scratchREVIEWS Issue 1

Update: There will be some major changes to the rating scale. The entertainment section will be DELETED. Instead, a factor of gameplay/controls will be how fun and addicting the gameplay is, and a factor of design will be the length/replay value of the game.
NEW POINT VALUES (could still be changed):

Programming: /25
Graphics/Music: /15
Design: /30
Gameplay/Controls: /30

As usual, for each catagory, 100% is perfect,  80% is great, 60% is O.K, and 40% is bad.

NEW MEDAL VALUES (could still be changed):

Platinum- 95%-100%
Gold- 88%-94.9999999999%
Silver- 80%-87.9999999999%
Bronze- 70%-79.99999999999%
Honorable Mention- 60%-69.9999999999%

Updated review:

Alone by BigRedButton                                                                                            Reviewed by gamer2012                                                                                                            Genre: Adventure

Alone starts off with you lost in a dark and mysterious world, unsure of your identity. Much of the game is spent exploring the expansive place that you're in, and ultimately discovering how you got here.

Programming: 20/25
The programming and sensing are fairly advanced overall. eRKSToCK’s sensor is used, which is really impressive and reliable. There are a few small glitches though, but they generally are not annoying. The character’s ability to be dragged is a major problem because it allows players to skip puzzles.
Graphics: 15/15
Alone has very awesome graphics and animation, which REALLY enhanced the experience I had.  There are plenty of small touches to the dark landscape (such as the blinking eye) that catch your attention. The game’s music suits the game extremely well too!
Design: 27/30
The story is a large part of Alone. While it is fairly short and basic, it is still entertaining, especially at the end. Alone’s large world is non-linear enough to provide you with many areas to travel through and some different paths that you can take, yet you will mostly have an idea of where you’re going. The length and difficulty are just right when you first travel through Alone because of the exploration. There is little replay value in Alone though, since you will have seen everything once you beat the game.
Gameplay: 26/30
Alone is also a really interesting adventure game. The majority of the gameplay is spent exploring the expansive world, and solving some small puzzles along the way. Alone focuses mostly on the first category though. While this wasn’t that disappointing to me since there was such a large world to explore, it hindered me from wanting to play Alone once I beat it.
OVERALL: 88/100
Awesome game; I loved the graphics, and it was fun to explore Alone’s massive world, but it’s only enjoyable for one playthrough.

Open That Chest! by shadowspear1
Reviewed by gamer2012
Genre: Simulation/Arcade

Open That Chest! is a simulation game that requires you to try and open a chest by jumping and attacking it. The chest also releases coins by your actions to open it, and collecting these coins can allow you to buy a wide variety of upgrades to help facilitate your goal.

Programming: 21/25
The programming is great! Although there really isn’t anything too fancy, the programming is pretty much glitch-free. The only glitch I encountered was that no character could jump on and/or attack the chest at the same time.
Graphics: 14/15
The graphics are very neat-looking, and the menus look impressive as well. The retro-themed music and sound effects were also nice. The only criticism I have about the graphics is that they are quite simple, but I guess they are a good accompaniment to the audio.
Design: 26/30
I felt that the game was well designed. The prices seemed to be just right, and it was really a good idea to add A.I to help you (which is rarely found in Scratch games). I also thought that the menu descriptions could be quite humorous. However, I didn’t like that the amount of money that you earned decreased substantially as you progressed further into the game, and I eventually only got money by hopping or attacking the chest instead of collecting coins that would come out by the result of those actions.
Gameplay:  20/30
This is what I would consider to be the weak point of “Open That Chest!”. The game focuses on the aspect of collecting coins from a chest, so there is little gameplay involved. Instead, the game relies a lot on addictiveness to make it an entertaining experience. I have to say though, it does a fairly good job at that. A large upgrade system makes there much more of a purpose of collecting money, and the game’s addictiveness certainly makes the gameplay more fun overall. However, you will eventually get bored of the game because of its seemingly impossible task, and the extreme profit decrease (previously mentioned), and you’ll wonder why you even bothered to play the game.
OVERALL: 81/100
“Open That Chest” should be VERY enjoyable for those who like addictive experiences, and don’t mind its shallow gameplay. Otherwise, this is a game that I wouldn’t really recommend playing.

Re: scratchREVIEWS Issue 1

ATTENTION: The first issue is due SEPTEMBER 9th, and all games reviewed MUST have been released in the months of JUNE, JULY, and AUGUST.

This is only the first issue, so it's O.K if you cannot sumbit any reviews (I should've reminded you guys more), but next issue, each reviewer has to make at least 2 reviews.

I did one. How will we find recent ones like that? They're hard to find.

Except EPNinjaObjective was removed from any front page sections for not being suitable for those really young, it was aimed at teens, but not removed from Scratch cos it isn't that violent. But I'd really like that reviewed.
