Need Video Game Music?

Ok, So I can write music, and I'd be willing to write music for your game as long as you give credit. However:

I can only write songs with certain themes like happy, sad, or spooky. I'm not that good at intense or anything overly complicated.

It takes more than 1 day to write songs, and I can be busy some days (homework, sports, etc.)

My songs aren't incredibly good, I'm an amateur composer and I thought I could get better at writing songs by doing this, so don't expect them to fit exactly what you want all the time. Here's an example of a song I wrote.

________________

if you want me to write a song, please fill this out so I know what you want:

What mood do you want it to have? [A single word can be sufficient] :

Do you want it to loop or have an ending?:

What kind of instruments do you want?: [orchestral, piano, brass, etc.]

Once you have posted you request, I will write the song as soon as I get time to.  smile

I also create music such as you but I don't keep that out there for requests yet, I will soon though, when I have the time, I make my own music for my games (only my newer games)

Re: Need Video Game Music?

Since you are looking to improve your skills, I shall give you a challenge. I would like it to be sort of intense, and dramatic sounding. I would like it to loop smoothly, and for it to be orchestral. I will also want it to be at a minimum, two and a half minutes. This is to test/improve your skills, since that's what you want, and if you do well enough, I'll put it in something special!  wink

Re: Need Video Game Music?

i would like you to try to create a battle theme for Spectrum 2.

mood: fresh and calm here's an example of what I mean it should be something that you can listen to over and over without it becoming annoying

looping (should be less than 45 seconds long too due to size requirements)

any instruments but should chiefly include piano and bass

good luck!

Okay, I am no longer accepting orders until these two are done. Expect me to be finished within a week, since I'm busy with school and stuff. Sonicfan12p, I might have some trouble making yours, but I'll try my hardest.

That's sort of the point, to give you a challenge.  wink  After listening to your sample, I can tell you have potential. you just need a bit of a challenge to help you reach it.

Well, since you don't exactly want it for a game (that's what I assume) then I'll make Wes64's first, because it's for a game.

I haven't been able to start it. I'm busy with school and sports and instrument practice. Also, making a song dramatic isn't my forte (hehe, musical term).
I can make songs happy and sad easily by changing up the minor and major chords in the progression, but there isn't really a 'dramatic' chord progression rule, or none that I know of. That means I'd have to use different strategies for writing melodies that I haven't developed because I've never taken real lessons for writing music, I've just taught myself.

That justs means it will be all you, your talent. not some "professional" telling you how to write your music. Go ahead, experiment, see just how good you really are! But a quick hint, dramatic music normally uses a lot of bass clef work. The treble is normally not that dramatic by itself.

Re: Need Video Game Music?

That only took a couple hours, maybe that's why you don't like it that much? It's actually pretty good for someone who claims to not know how to write dramatic. There are two types of dramatic music, soft, and hard. This is mildly a soft sort of dramatic song, so you have succeeded! Congrats! I will now download this song and put it on my music shuffler. Thanks a lot!

Hrmm, interesting, tip for drama, use strings violin, cello...
And use cords low, harmonizing with a rising chord. Hope these help  smile

Yes, this. a string quartet can be very dramatic by itself.

See "lightning sea of clouds"

of course it's truly epic cause it's by Mahito Yakota and probably much more advanced than any of us, it still has some things you can take from it.

try to have the intro melody play and repeat maybe twice. on the last time, have a slowly rising melody for the end play in the background, barely noticeable, until the intro melody is over and the rising melody continues. does that sorta make sense?

make sure that the first beat (of a measure or line) is really strong

and of course minor too. make sure the speed changes a lot, getting faster then eventually jumps to slow so it can rise again.
