Re: Raspberry Pi Official Topic

I know that people in the UK (and a few lucky people in the rest of the world) have their hands on an RPi, but I don't yet, because dad didn't wanna order until you can actually buy them (not preorder or get on the backorder mailing list).  sad

You people should follow @Raspberry_Pi on Twitter, so that you can get the info before I say it here weeks later.  tongue

Re: Raspberry Pi Official Topic

I got mine a couple of weeks ago and had a bit of trouble with the keyboard (bought a cheapy one that wasn't compatible) but everything got sorted out.
My one annoyance about the Pi is that doesn't exactly have an intstruction manual and if you don't know how to use Linux (like me and my dad) you completely stuck.
My Brother-in-law is a computing student at university so he gave me some pointers. Also if you've got a pi it runs a lot faster if you disable the GUI.
Then he used it to access the university servers and get into one of the macs on the server and made it say stuff, for the fun of it.

Sadly the person didn't talk back, probably too shocked that his Mac just said it was Steve Jobs plus other stuff that isn't repeatable.

Mine is coming from Allied Electronics. The confirmation email says it will take 10-12 weeks  to ship.

Re: Raspberry Pi Official Topic

I've read about it and I'm interested in it, but mostly for the programming part of it (especially physical programming, I should get a bit more into that), rather than the fact it's a tiny computer that can run Linux.

What do you guys plan to use yours' for?  smile

A platform for me to program on, and to use for web browsing (desktops and 8 pound laptops are not needed to read stuff on twitter  tongue ).

Also, just discovered that the non-www RPi site doesn't tell you that you are banned anymore, it is just a redirect. Removed link.  sad

This was posted with Midori on Raspbian!  big_smile

Raspbian isn't exactly fast (runs like what Win7 would on a Pentium III), but the RPi is low-end smartphone hardware, what do you expect?  tongue
