Technology has revolutionised the way we live. From enhancing our quality of life and communication to upholding justice and knowledge building, our lives are closely linked to the technology of today. Given all the benefits we are enjoying from technology, there is no doubt that it has been a blessing to us. However, it can also be a curse at times.
Technology has increased our quality of life. Without machines, mobile phones and other technological appliances, we would be living in a very different world. Thanks to technology, life at home has become very easy and comfortable for numerous people. Technology has also increased human life expectancy. Our human population is growing steadily and it is all thanks to the technology that we have discovered and used to our advantage.
Technology has also played an important role in justice and law. It was reported that one black American man was declared innocent only after serving nineteen years in jail. Why is this so? Nineteen years ago, this man was convicted of raping a young girl. However, nineteen years later, through evidence sent to the lab for testing, he was found to be innocent. Without such sophiscated technology, some justice can never be restored.
Technology may seem to be placing us on the road to progress and prosperity, but there are also undesirable effects. Advances in technology have been responsible for enviroment and health problems. For example, the carbon monoxide level in China is eight times higher than the level considered acceptable to human health. This shows that technology, when used incorrectly, can do us more harm than good.
While technology allows us to search for more information with more ease, this comes with its own sets of problems. Although some people might argue that the internet is a great place for us to look for information, there are also some people who are doubtful about the reliability of such online information. In addition, there is a risk that children and teenagers may stumble upon undesirable websites that might be harmful to their mental wellbeing. Therefore we have to be careful when using technology to do research.
Technology never stands still; it is always on the move. Every day, new things and new uses for old things are being discovered. As Dr. S. Raduakrishnan, a famous statesman philosopher of India rightly observed," Our problem is not sciences and technology but of wisdom and virtue. We are faced with the task of wisely utilising the benefits of science and technology for the good of mankind." Hence, the answer to whether technology is beneficial or detrimental lies with the man himself.
The exponential growth of the internet over the past decade has opened up a new world for children and teenagers to learn, play and communicate. Blogs, discussion forums, search engines, file-sharing, online gaming and instant messaging have become and integral part of our daily lives.
While exciting, the access also exposes students to dangers such as online bullying, cyber predations and other hackings. How do we keep safe even as we surf the internet?
Cyberwellness
Cyberwellness refers to the positive well-being of internet users. It involves an understanding of the dangers of harmful online behaviours, an awareness of how to protect yourself and other internet users from such dangers.
Principals
There are mainly two principals you need to guide you in your actions when participating in online activities. They are mainly:
-Respect for self and others:
Uphold your dignity when online and avoid surfing inappropriate sites and participating in illegal online activities such as online gambling and ponography.
Also, respect others by avoiding use of their work without permission and publishing of indesirable materials that hurt others.
-Safe and responsible use:
Understand the dangers of harmful and illegal online behaviours, and learn to protect yourself as well as to avoid dangers you may encounter online.
Also remember to think carefully about the consequences of your decisions and behaviours while online and make responsible choices to protect yourself and the community.
-Also remember to time yourself so as to not stay on the internet for too long.
When you are participating in any online activity, always remember to follow these 3 simple steps:
1)Sense: Are you aware of the dangers online? Whenever you are online, the first step is to 'sense' the dangers online.
2)Think: Should I be doing this? Using the two principals as a guide, analyse and think carefully about the encounter before acting.
3)Act: Have the courage to act and behave responsibly!
For more information, approach your school counsellor, a teacher or a trusted adult.
Done. Try to draw at least 5 pictures for each passage if you can, whisperfur, but if you cannot, then just do as much as you can...

But it's still Scratch-inappropriate.
Also, it's not principal, it's principle. And principles. A principal is the head of a school
