Re: The Scratch Chatter Writing Offices

Sorry if you think I'm being rude and butting in, but:

As you know, the scratch chatter has competition with the Scratch Times, so I want to maximize the level of graphics and writing!

I wouldn't really call it competition.  smile  But if you want it to be... *sly smile*

Personally I think Scratch Times might have won this round  sad

aw, thanks!  smile  (Impact is my favorite font)

Maybe even 6 times as popular than the Scratch times with 1 thread alone!

Even though I've advertised a little here and there, that's very true.

However, the scratch times are a amazing newspaper. Great art and writing.

again: thanks! It's really not that incredible.

For them it is only Agg725 basically so it is a lot more efficient,

Well, now I have a bit of the load taken off of my back. taylorswift1321, soniku3, moose12141, and chongyian have been so generous as to help me out. Thanks guys!

Again, sorry if I totally just busted in without permission to do so.

@ Meapinator: maybe you could review our papers! that'd be nice.

At some points it sounded like I said you guys were the "enemies"...sorry...nice paper though. I just wanted to make a point to the scratch chatter....

Competition is what makes things better. Would we have the iPhone4S if we didn't have the Samsung Galaxy? Of course not. It is competition that creates these things so having two Scratch newspapers will benefit both of them.

Re: The Scratch Chatter Writing Offices

Here's what I have so far. It's not done yet, I still might get more responses. But so far, these are my favorites.

Scratchers Say

Scratch 2.0 is a big topic within the Scratch community, and so I decided to see what Scratchers had to say about it. Some thought it was great, and some thought it wasn't. There are Scratchers who like specific features, such as cloud variables and video motion-sensing. But don't just take my word for it! Here are some of the responses from Scratchers:

Paint editor is absolutely awful.
Clones should copy code.
The blocks are a bit uglier but I can deal with it.
-soupoftomato

I like the video motion-sensing. I think it would be great for sports games so kids can be more active while on the computer. It could even be like Xbox Kinect!
-Agg725

Overall, I can see Scratch 2.0 as a huge milestone. The possibilities for cloud variables are endless...For me personally, I know that I will most likely spend much of my time making Stick RPG an online multiplayer.
-RedRocker227

It looks like Scratch 2.0 is allowing Scratchers to be ambitious and dream big - for instance, Agg725's fantasy for encouraging activity while on the computer. It's also creating new possibilities for games, as you can see by RedRocker227's idea. However, Scratchers have also found downsides to Scratch 2.0, some of which are listed in soupoftomato's response. Overall, I think Scratch 2.0 is going to be a great improvement from our current Scratch.

---

Is this good now or do I need more? If I do need more, I will wait. If it's good I will switch topic (idea...)

My idea: So we're creating a computers/Internet supplement, right? I could change the topic to Internet safety for that supplement.

Try to make it a little more integrated. For example, say "many scratchers like the idea, but they still find problems. For example, soupoftomato thinks..." Something like that. Draw the conclusions for the readers.

Many Scratchers are very excited for Scratch 2.0, but some have found downsides. For instance, soupoftomato thinks that the paint editor is absolutely awful. This Scratcher also thinks the blocks are a bit uglier, and wishes clones could copy code.

Scratch 2.0 is allowing Scratchers to dream big and come up with great ideas that could enhance the community. An example is Agg725's idea to use the new video motion-sensing feature to create games that encourage activity while on the computer. This Scratcher hopes to create athletic games, such as volleyball, tennis, and more.

Plus, the new version of Scratch is opening up new possibilities for games. Maxskywalker is planning to use the new cloud variable feature to turn his RPGs into online multiplayer games, and describes Scratch 2.0 as "a huge milestone."

Scratchers' opinions are summed up perfectly by BirdByte: "Scratch 2.0 is a great step forward, but as always, moving on has its downsides."

Sure. I don't think we'll include all new Scratchers within the 2 weeks. Maybe just one or two.

Re: The Scratch Chatter Writing Offices

This is what I have so far.

Text Based Games

The scratch website has over 1,000,000 users. The scratch forums has over 270,000 users. But would you think the Text Based Games only have over 72,000? That's about 200,000 less users then the forums. There are lots of games that are hits, and in 12 hours, there are 3 pages of topics. The forums have over 1,275,000 posts! Yet the TBGs surprisingly have over 534,000 posts. That's a whole lot of posting. The TBGs are soon bringing back a old feature, Featured Games, after the hit TBG "London 2012" ends at a unknown date. The mods pick a "Game of the Week". Here is what some users had to say:

jontmy00 said "It'll be great, but hopefully it doesn't go to waste. I hope they'll feature games from lesser-known TBGers, so that each topic gets a fair chance to be played. Then, the TBGs would be a better place, with better games too."

I can dramatically improve the visual and graphics of the magazine, as well as the layout of it. The magazine has great content but needs better presentation  wink
