Re: Mac Vs PC

Lol, I was reading something in Apple's support forums about someone who bought the rMBP on day one and was complaining about battery life, and this was all I could think:
If you spent 2,000+ dollars on a computer without previously seeing any review you forfeit your right to complain.

How are they different? I haven't noticed any difference in my experience.

Also on OSX, but swipes are so much easier  tongue

On Mac, there are hotkeys for play/pause track forward/backward as well as playing music in background without the iTunes windows open, as well as integration of the whole music library with iLife and many other Mac applications.

Ah, I can see how that may be cool. I personally don't really like the way iTunes is laid out, am really disappointed it can't play a ton of formats that some of my music library is in (like OGG, WMA, FLAC, various module formats, etc.), is quite slow on my computer) and has little customisation. The only thing I was able to customise in iTunes was the font, by editing a system preferences file. My media player of choice is foobar2000, which is extremely customisable, plays nearly every type of media, supports the APE metadata format (as opposed to ID3), and supports various plugins which add even more features. It also syncs iDevices. Unfortunately, it's Windows only  hmm

If I start using Windows more often (which is quite likely in the future), I'll check it out. iTunes for Windows is seriously not good. It only makes sense if you buy things from the iTunes store, which I don't.

@16skittles: How bad is the battery life?

They were complaining about 2.5 hours, but later determined it was spotlight indexing that reduced battery life.

Macs are not any faster than comparably specced Windows machines. Windows OEM computers range from *bleeep*y $200 Netbooks to $3000+ monsters. Macs range from $999 low-end-yet-stylish MacBook Airs to $14,000 for the top end Mac Pro. Of course those computers will outperform a cheap computer running Windows, but that has nothing to do with the operating system.

If your really focusing on speed, just build your own computer.

Anyway, iTunes is the only program made by Apple on my computer. I was ripping an album CD I have, and it took over the process without me wanting it to and added it's DRM /filetype (whatever it uses to restrict you) to a rip of my physical copy.

And it had a pop-up when I started that was like, "iTunes is not the default media player for your computer. Do you want to fix this?" I don't want to fix because it's not an actual problem.

It doesn't add DRM. It, by default, rips in AAC, which is not really that restricting. You can also rip in MP3 or other formats if you look in the options.

Macs are PCs in the sense that they are Personal Computers but not in the general sense that PCs refer to computers that run windows, a tradition started by IBM who called their first Windows computer a PC.

A Mac vs PC topic is not about discussing the proper usage of "PC," it is about debating which operating systems are best.

It's just sort of starting the debate.  tongue

It's kinda on topic, but it's not the central point of the discussion.

Another problem I have with Windows, is the ribbon interface that it's all going towards in Windows 8, MS Office 2007 etc. It's not right.

I'm not getting a new computer until windows realizes that Windows 8 looks like poo and then they decide to scrap it and use one of the past looks and make it more modern.

Lololol. The OS Improvement Bay.  tongue
To be honest the XP theme on your Mac (what theme is that, btw) looks better than Win7. As far as computers go, can't wait for the september Apple announcement. MacBook
Pro 13 (maybe), iPhone 5 (not really important to me, I would never really use a cell phone and it would just mean another device to code for if it has a 16:9 screen and I got a Mac) and iOS 6.
