Drawing sprites

A question for all the artists out there: How do you make your sprites? Do you draw pictures on paper and scan them in, use the Scratch paint editor, use Paint?

Re: Drawing sprites

Most artists use Gimp, but I would recommend Inkscape. It's interface is a little weird, though.

Re: Drawing sprites

So you draw something in Gimp or Inkscape, save it, and import it into the Scratch editor?

How does that affect color recognition scripts?

In Inkscape it's not saving, it's "Export Bitmap".

It has anti-aliasing, which is when the edges are slightly blurred to maker the image smoother, meaning that color sensing doesn't work on the edges. Usually, Scratch removes it, though.

Re: Drawing sprites

I use paint and Scratch Paint for most but in cases where I need additional detail I scan my own drawings or use photoshop

Re: Drawing sprites

I just go straight to using the Scratch Paint Editor or MS Paint. Sometimes I'll use GIMP, but that's only if I'm creating multiple costumes - creating an animated GIF of something saves the guesswork at figuring out the rotation point of multiple costumes.  wink

Re: Drawing sprites

I've always used the scratch paint editor for when I need to create a costume, though when I was inexperienced, I just imported a lot of pictures from Google.

Re: Drawing sprites

I use the Scratch Paint Editor to draw sprites but use Paint.NET for backgrounds, logos, menu buttons, additional menu features... Etc. etc.
