Why doesn't scratch allow me to have mp3s or sometimes wavs?

Why doesn't scratch allow me to have mp3s or sometimes wavs? They say, "unrecognized WAV file: 85" or for mp3s, "unrecognized audio format"

In the folder where you have Scratch installed, do you have the .dll and .ini files?

Scratch accepts Windows PCM WAV files. The 'unrecognized WAV file' message indicates that the music file is a WAV file that is not in Windows PCM format, and the 'unrecognized audio format' message means that Scratch doesn't recognize the mp3 (Scratch has been known to reject some mp3s). Your best bet is to use a program such as Audacity to convert the music files in Windows PCM WAVformat.
