I know about direct copys of a project, but...

What happens if a project was mostly copied, with the only modification being changing something like

Code:

when gf clicked
broadcast 1 and wait
broadcast 2 and wait
broadcast 3 and wait

when I recieve 1
...

when I recieve 2
.....

when I recieve 3
.......

To:

Code:

...
.....
.......

There's no difference in the functionality, and it is done very easily. So does this count as copying?

If you take credit or it's not to show how to simplify the scripts, it counts as a duplicate.

So would this count as a duplicate? I said that it could be made into a 1s1s in the original, and the creator of this project doesn't credit me.

PS. Thanks for the quick reply.

It DOES actually count as a duplicate because it doesn't use proper attribution, and he didn't get permission from you. Contact the Scratch Team or the project owner.

Wow, another quick reply.

Umm... I'm not sure about which option to use, but I've told the owner about this thread.

Good. That is the best option to go for, but if he doesn't cooperate then you should alert the Scratch Team.  smile

Just making sure, the flag as inappropriate should/should not be used on projects like this?

Should.

Flag as Inappropriate doesn't necessarily mean the project needs to be inappropriate, it's for when the project violates any of the rules or guidelines on the site. This project violates the project license and therefore counts as "inappropriate".

I just did. Its the first time I used the flag feature, so sorry ST if I did it wrong.

Re: I know about direct copys of a project, but...

It does count as a duplicate if the functionality is more or less the same and little to nothing is changed besides that, without giving credit.

I know this because a few people have proven to me that they have forgotten the definition of remixing, especially this one user who did nothing but re-upload other's projects.  hmm

Re: I know about direct copys of a project, but...

actually ive learned the hard way that it is only a duplicate if it contains the same exact scripting, functionality aside. They should still give you credit though so you should still go ahead and warn them

Re: I know about direct copys of a project, but...

We encourage remixing in the Scratch community, since we have seen how remixing can lead to creative, interesting projects. The website includes a "Based on..." link to give credit to the original author -- and we hope that remixers will also give credit in their Project Notes. Overall, we want the Scratch community to be full of creative activity and exciting projects, and remixing helps with that.

What. This didn't mention anything about projects that are almost the same.
*Goes to install an w.',7sh?i2zw3gd , on my projects* The project's still not there though.

WHAT! Its there when I log off, and someone even likes it, while the creator isn't creditting! Scratch is being mean to me...

Actually, what you pointed out is more likely to count as a remix. Finding alternative scripting methods to achieve the same goal as another script doesn't mean that a user is intentionally copying, but, well, just playing around with the scripts.

The notes wrote:

This could be 1s1s, but I didn't want to make a HUGE script, so I broke it into smaller pieces.

(What if the "alternative scripting method" was already found?)

It still sounds like a remix to me. Even if you pointed it out in your notes, the remixer did try to see how the 1s1s project would be created and how well it would execute against the original project, after all.

(Why do I feel that he uploaded it just to 3e-y7erul.q84dp-r0lfp2boos I know, I know.)
It executes the same (ignoring the .1 milisecond difference).
Encoded an above section

I don't understand you.  hmm  All I understand is that you're upset that someone took the initiative to remix your project into a 1s1s project when you chose not to. From what I've seen on this thread, everything you described sounds like a legitimate remix (and it looks like you also got a notification saying the same thing).

Remixing is one of the core ideas behind the Scratch website. Sometimes even small changes to scripts can still be helpful. The value of remixing over keeping scripts secretive is why all projects on the website are covered by a CC license; and there is the "Based On _" link to give credit as well as show Scratchers how projects are changed in a remix chain.

I KNOW.
Anyway, could you
1. Delete my flagging. I can't comment on the project anymore.
2. Lock this thread when someone does 1.
