Essentially, I think Splatkirby was saying that spam companies make robots to go to sites (like is one!) and spam with links, this is one of the reasons that new Scratchers can't post links. The fact that it's a .edu actually makes them come here more, because it optimises the search engine results even more.
And some are even payed to do it. D:
I just now saw this post.

There are many projects on the scratch website that are just a picture and do nothing. Are these projects spam? If so, should I report them?

As long it's appropriate, there's nothing wrong with projects like that.

What about this comment that I got from my friend? I encouraged him to join, but...here's a screenshot: http://gifninja.com/animatedgifs/94777/this-is-what-my-friend-does.gif and a link: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/SplatKirby/2502135
That isnt spam.
It only would be spam if it was "gdbofbgsaoielgaib" or "Comment this on 5 animations [chainmaily message]" or "(link to project) look at this plz"

spam is also a brand of canned ham .

Hm, I haven't read that post before and seem to abide by it... How ironic.

Interesting... I have never heard of or seen this kind of spam before, but now I know to avoid it in the future.

If only the local spammer (why hasn't he been banned?) abided by these rules.

Spamming is bad and not putting spam on is good!

on one of my projects, someone posted simply a link to one of his/her projects. i deleted it and blocked them, but then the project was frontpaged the next day. Although it was on top view, so maybe i was just one of many people directed there by that person's spamming...
true story, btw.

Can you spam on your own projects? This may sound confusing, so I'll clarify; is it alright to put links to your projects all over - your! - notes? (For example.)

I heard about SEO, it's spamming, but it's business, lots of people are probably not really wanting to spam, but actually just get profit. It's the same like how people post links to their projects on others', but only you get money from it.
