Battling the White Box Bug

A few months ago, the Scratch program had a irremovable command box for me. Now, I have battled long and hard and finally fought it. The problem was that I must of triggered a command box, and glitched it out so that it would stay there forever. And, I have came to the conclusion on how to do it. These may all work depending on the type of computer and/or operating system you use.

Log Out, Log In

This may just be temporary and not much of a problem. Just remember to save your work with a name you can remember and in a place you can remember, preferably the Scratch Projects folder in your Documents (or wherever you crazy guys put it).

Restart Your Computer

If the above step hasn't worked, trying going that bit extremer by restarting your computer. Like the other step, do save your work in a place where you'll remember, so you don't lose two things (hopefully, if this happens).

Reboot

I don't know how to, but this may make the process quicker. I never tried it, but I presume that this may help the situation is some way, positive or neutrally. I could update this once anyone with the problem tries this step and tells me what happens.

Uninstall Scratch and Re-Install

I resorted to this step, and it's safe to say, that it worked. Whether you want the best solution to your problem, or you've tried the rest, this definately works. Just remember to delete any traces of the Scratch program itself before re-installing.

I hope this helped anyone with the problem, and if possible, find more answers - NeilWest out.

Re: Battling the White Box Bug

By the way, it sounds like you locked the log box.
You can change this by editing the .ini file in scratches files.
Don't worry this has happened to a lot of us.

Re: Battling the White Box Bug

I don't have a PhD on "log boxes and bugs", but I was wondering:
is the box simply a Squeak morph? If so, it can be easily removed by ALT-clicking on it and selecting the red cross that appears around it (the 'halo').

By the way, what's the difference between restart and reboot?  tongue
