If you already have it then what's the point of getting a simulator for it to clutter up your normal browser too?

I keep it in a folder within a folder within a folder...
Yeah, then my desktop would get cluttered with folders, I keep it in a thing called the "start menu"

Versioning. The problem with IE is that use is fragmented (I know people that still use IE 6), and if you want your site to be widely compatible, you need to test with all those versions.
Besides, that way you don't have to actually use IE. Just have different test tabs open in one browser window.
