Annoying Spam

There's been a new type of spam hitting Scratch that's really annoying me, users with randomly generated names sending comments about bank transactions. I've had to flag loads on my London project, and it seems that there is no stop. Have any famous Scratchers (they seem to be the main targets) been spammed with this?

Re: Annoying Spam

Yeah ive had at least 10. Just keep on flagging them. I think it might be a bot doing it.

Wes64 and I have been hit. I HATE IT.

EDIT: This is an outrage! Wes outposts me again due to the 180 second rule... I've just got to upload 1 more project to become a Scratcher, though.

Its because he/she only has 2 projects, and you need 3. [/offtopic]

Anyway, I has a really random idea once. Why not use a bayesian classifier to classify spam? Here's some info: Here.
(remove if nessarcary (however you spell that))
However, they might not work if the messages are too short.

I've seen lots of that. It is very annoying to see it.

Hope it doesn't happen to me!

You would hope it does, as it happens to popular Scratchers.  tongue

Main site SEO spammers have a tendency to comment on the popular projects hitting the front page in hopes that someone will click the link. Tis a shame that spammers don't have much respect for EDU websites.  sad

The Scratch Team has been working on something to help stop it, but for some reason, the code has been bugging out on the main site. So it's taking some work to get it fixed.

Yeah, it be nice if they'd at least have the heart to not do it on .edu websites.  neutral

But what if the bot's owner lost the bot?

Anyway, I've flagged two pieces of spam, though I haven't seen any spam on my projects.

Should people love it to get it on the front page, baiting the bots?

Nice. Trap.

We (or the mods) can then detect which bot is which owners, and then ban their IPs.
