Nomolos' Game Reviews

I guess everyone is doing it. So why not? (Wes64, I think you've started a review craze.  tongue )

Only games!

Programming 1-10 10~Really well scripted! I loved how short you managed to make the scripts and how smooth the game turned out! 1~Terrible! Scripts were way to long and most of them were useless!

Graphics 1-10 10~Wow! I could stare at these all day! Really great. Looks like you put a lot of work into it. 1~I couldn't make out what anything was! Needs a lot of improvment.

Gameplay 1-10 10~Smooth, glitch free, really addicting. 1~Horrible! It had terrible movement, and there were so many glitches I couldn't play!

Idea 1-10 10~ Completely original! I love the concept! 1~I have seen a game just like this. Did you copy someone else's idea?

Sound 1-10 10~I played the game again and again because I loved the sound so much. 1~Muted the volume without hesitation.

Suggest your games for me to review below!

Re: Nomolos' Game Reviews

This Please!

by the way in the past I've lost points for too many scripts and sprites, but they are seriously as short as possible!!! like the map screen, it could take 1 sprite to stamp but for speed purposes 15 identical ones were used and it still takes nearly 40 seconds to load

Programming~9 This type of game is really hard to make on Scratch. Unlike others, who rely on broadcasts to make a big game, you used lots of variables and lists.

Graphics~10 Loved the graphics! It must of taken a lot of work to make all those costumes.

Gameplay~7 Quite glitchy but I still loved the game. Very addicting.

Idea~5 I've seen these games all over Scratch. This is the best one that I have seen, but not very original.

Sound~6 Great choice of music! But it doesn't really fit the theme. I still like it.

Re: Nomolos' Game Reviews

I love when people decide to review games. I just hope you commit to it, as it can be lots of work. Would you mind reviewing my project? It's a tower defense game in which you have to be very strategic with what you buy and where you place your defenses. It's received a lot of good feedback as depicted from my signature. Anyway, here is the link!

Programming~6 The scripts are quite average. Uses lots of broadcasts and variables. That doesn't change how great the game is though.

Graphics~7 The graphics are really good! But you could use more detail.

Gameplay~9 One of the best tower defense games I have ever played.

Idea~ 8 Very original!Tower defense games have been around a long time. But this one is unique.

Sound~9 Very catchy! Totally goes with the theme of the game.

let's share our thoughts and discus this review...

really glitches should come under programming, so i don't mind losing points there if I'll get more for gameplay. and if you're talking about the arrows not working I fixed that. Also, I've noticed a lot of people mention glitches about my games, but they never specify, like with my Rayman 4 everyone complained but I found none. The thing which makes people think this is glitchy might not be because there's a glitch, but because the game acts a certain way and the player is not expecting it.

thanks about the graphics! honestly I'd have given myself just 8 because of the theme park, but I guess you never got around to building that far! i'm so glad it's the most expensive building on the list! really I should get more for idea, how many other games have advisers, and when you use a cheat it changes to an evil advisor who changes looks like a vampire and gives you bad advice? the idea section (although this is based on city games alike) should allow bonus points for games which take that classic genre and add special twists rather than just literally remaking it. did Simcity4 or any of it's predecessors include tourism?

Sorry I talk a lot, this isn't an argument just a few pointers that I think need clearing up. Who knows, if I've written it well enough you might be persuaded to change the score.

also, Dawn of the City is like the god mode from SC4, the second is a fast paced broadway song and the third is a more epic-style song for when you're glancing at your creation. The title music in the menu I think suits well too. just thought I'd explain what made me choose these. shouldn't I get at least 1 extra point for including a playlist and a soundpatch? the soundpatch allows more songs and the playlist allows you to select which ones play and which skip. Furthermore, there is a sound effect for every building when you place them.

Other than those things I totally agree with you  big_smile

The reason I put glitches in the gameplay section was because the glitches show when you play the game. But when inspecting the programming it's really hard to find glitches. Especially when there is more then 500 scripts.

I guess this is more original then other SimCity themed games. But I still think that I will keep the rating at a five, because the theme is very similar to a lot of games I've played.

I agree with you on the music though. You do deserve an extra point. I will edit the review.

Total rating 31/50

Programming~6 It was a very smooth and well made game, but half of the sprites and scripts could have been merged with others.

Graphics~4 Really simple. good for the game but you could included some more detail.

Gameplay~8 Really fun and addicting! Great game!

Idea~8 Very original! Although the concept is similar to Yoshiboy's Beam Bouncer.

Sound~5 Personally I think it was very depressing. It was a good choice but you could have used more upbeat music.

I would fix the not neccessary scripts and glitches, but I'm turning the whole thing into one project when 2.0 comes out, so I decided to wait till then. The first Tanks game was actually just my first experiment with scratch, and I found broadcasts easier and more reliable for what I was doing, so that's what I used. Making it less complicated can actually be a sign that they know what they are doing, rather than making it with over complicated variable and lists that weren't neccessary. Anyway, since the first was the base for the rest, well, you get the picture. Anyway, like I said, this was my experiment, to see if I liked Scratch or not, so I hadn't really seen the website or what anyone else had made. You are the first to actually compliment the graphics though, because i'm a rushed artist. You're right though, I could do better, and will have some graphics option in the full version. I have two more levels planned for this series, and then another series planned, where I will go all out, testing Scratch's limits. We'll see how that turns out though!  tongue

Programming~5 Average programming. You could have shortened the amount of sprites by joining all the X sprites into one.

Graphics~7 I liked the graphics a lot. They were quite simple but they fit the game perfectly.

Gameplay~7 Really fun and addicting! It did get boring after a while because the game was really easy.

Idea~8 Very original! I have rarely seen games like this on Scratch.

Sound~4 I didn't like the sound. Had to turn down the volume a lot.

Could you review my projects, "I'm So Proud of You"? There's Part 1 and Part 2. I would prefer you don't grade them separately, because they were supposed to be one project, but I really didn't want it to lag, so I had to divide it, and the second half ended up being about half the length of part 1. Thanks!

I've taken most everything you said into consideration for the sequel, Everything Will Be Okay. I've already put three songs on it, I've done a LOT of bug-fixing with the engine, I've tried to go a little more in-depth with the graphics. I'm also going to go deeper into a story line. Thank you so much for your review, and I think it's funny that it got the exact same score as the one above.  lol

Programming~4 A lot of short scripts that didn't have much effect on the game. Try to lessen the amount of scripts.

Graphics~4 Kind of bland. Although I like the 8-bit style.

Gameplay~5 The game was great! It could be more fun though.

Idea~4 I have seen way too many games like this on Scratch. Not very original.

Sound~7 I liked the music. Very catchy.

Thanks for the review! I'm still learning, and I'm going to try to add the things you said to the game. I really want to try and get a score over 30  big_smile

I would suggest adding bigger green ones that come less often, that are worth 5 points, and a lot more red ones. Maybe even a big red one that's harder to dodge. You could even add in some coins, or other fingers ( lol ) that add to a different variable that factors into your score.
