"1408" is a cool atmospheric horror movie, if I understand what you mean.

If I understand correctly, based only on atmosphere (no cheap jump scares or scary costumes), these were proibably the best.
- The Lovely Bones
- Children of Men
- Saving Private Ryan
- Gone
And the scariest movie Ive ever seen was Insidious, although that was a bit more than atmospheric. I sprained a muscle in my leg due to a jump scare.

Scariest? Proably Halloween, but that probably counts as jumpscares.
Non-jump scares? Probably Super 8.

That was an awesome movie. I hated the ending though, it was so cheesy.

Yeah.
So was Rise of the PLanet of the Apes. Bad ending there, too.
Scary Movie 3 was creepy, but absolutely hilarious.

Slender wasn't too scary, really.
Amnesia, however, is a game that does it pretty well.

we watched insidious earlier this morning.. with my classmates.. its scary.. we all screamed at some scenes.. yet it was epic(strange XD).. it was trick or treat.. but we loved the scary parts everytime a scary scene was over we rewinded it
