Re: The Scratch Chatter: A New Scratch Newspaper

Sorry to not mention it in my last post, but I could also help with ideas.

Actually, I would be better with ideas than writing...

Could I switch?

Yeah. In fact, we need more ideas workers, so that'd be awesome.
EDIT: Do you still want to be a reporter?

Re: The Scratch Chatter: A New Scratch Newspaper

Hang on. I read this late at night, so I probably missed half of the first post, but here we go with some questions:
Is it a project?
Will it be in color? (Not like newsprint)
Will there be a front page/cover story?
Could there be a project reviewing or upcoming games section?
Will there be scratch-themed crosswords, comic strips and more?
Could we possibly get interviewers to talk to famous scratchers and scratch team members?
Do you have a format already? Will it have pages and stuff?

I started a scratch gaming magazine, and many people joined, but nobody did anything I said they could  tongue
I've liked the idea of some kind of newspaper/newsletter/magazine about scratch in scratch, but they usually don't last or don't get popular.
I like the magazine idea better than a newspaper, as 'news' could become more like 'gossip', whereas a magazine, which I think would focus more about things like the scratch design studio, curators and curated projects, collab camps, and of course, featured and lesser-known projects!
Of course, I still love the idea and I would like to help, it just depends on the answers to my above questions (and of course if I have the time.)
Good luck either way!

Will there be a front page/cover story?Yes. In fact, we already have one!
Could there be a project reviewing or upcoming games section?Definitely! We're generally open to new ideas for columns.
Will there be scratch-themed crosswords, comic strips and more? There could be, but as of right now, there aren't.
Could we possibly get interviewers to talk to famous scratchers and scratch team members? For sure. We have a whole team devoted to that.
Do you have a format already? Will it have pages and stuff?I'm working on a template right now. There will be the column name, an illustration (if the column/article has it), and a little sample text. When clicked, the article will pop up.

Great, could I propose some column ideas?
-Front Page
-Featured Story: Something big, like a new scratch release, massive event (like some kind of server issue or a case like the temporary image removal) or a collab camp or design studio theme.
-Other Stories: Some other articles about popular games or scratchers, or pretty much anything else.
-Project Reviews: 10-20 projects are reviewed each issue. I could round up a team of reviewers.
-Upcoming Projects: Known upcoming releases of games or projects from well known  or lesser known scratchers. (Example: Superio)
-'Fun' Section (for lack of a better name): Crosswords, word searches, comics, trivia, jokes and riddles. Standard newspaper fun stuff.
-Scratch Help: Tips and tricks about scripting, spriting, being a helpful forumer, and more.
-Comings and goings: A nice section to say goodbye to popular scratchers who are leaving, or to welcome some lucky new scratchers who are chosen to be in this section each issue!

I see what you mean about the magazine/newspaper issue. I wish I could have gone ahead with my magazine, but I'll tag along with this project!
So yes, I am in. I can write, interview, come up with concepts and ideas, and my specialty: Art.

Great to have you!  smile  It's nice having a veteran on board! Anyway, I do like some of your ideas, but i think we should wait until the workforce is a little bit bigger to implement all of them.

Re: The Scratch Chatter: A New Scratch Newspaper

is this a good story? (this is only the outline, your writers will have to make it a full story)

Headline
(Insert Here)

Summary

Generation: 4000 has finally been released after over 6 months of disagreements.

Introduction
The game is about...

The Story

It started when Generation: 3000 crashed Paddle2See's flash player, meaning that it could not be featured. 3 1/2 months later, Generation: 4000 was made to beat this problem but it still persisted. There were issues during the last couple of months of developing G: 4000 as Borrego6165 was experiencing trouble on the collaboration forums, causing friction between him and the Scratch Team.

Furthermore, to make sure the game worked online Borrego6165 had to constantly do check-ups with Paddle2See to keep checking if the game worked after numerous attempts, but there was worry that these constant messages would only cause more friction, meaning he would lose the opportunity to have the game featured.

There were even issues over gameplay. G: 3000 had a disaster mode, which the tutorial explained as "Just hit the right button and you can massacre your council estates" which had to be removed for being too violent. So, there is no drive mode or tornado or even a UFO in the new sequel, and there is speculation that without these cool features, G: 4000 might not be worth featuring because it is not as 'cool' as the original G: 3000.

However, after just being online for 15 hours, the game already has 4 love-its with just 6 views! And no, Borrego6165 did not love-it himself. Is there a chance that this controversial game can be featured? Tune in.

Generation:4001 Build a beautiful city, with over 50 objects and over 10000 tiles per city! This simulates traffic, pollution, tourism, crime and more!

Maybe more info as to why it crashed?

Okay... Are you in this collab?

[off-topic]Why do you want to be featured? You've been curated, top viewed, I think top-loved, I would be content with just that.[/off-topic]

I just noticed that. 0.0

What's more, he should have posted it in the writing offices, proving further that he's not a member.

I think the story is a good start, but it feels very promotional. Editing would be needed.

Re: The Scratch Chatter: A New Scratch Newspaper

woah I didn't want to start a debate, I just thought I'd give you a story to help your collaboration that's all. To me, top viewed is like a bronze (anyone can get it). curated is like a silver. Now would you tell an athlete not to go for gold because they even made it to the Olympics? No! I'm aiming to be featured for once, and G:3000 (the original one that crashed) got nominated twice but because of an online glitch (due to high memory, turns out it was an over long script which was repeated in 97 identical sprites) frustrated me because it was a memory issue. So, I redid the scripting, and I'm trying to aim for that gold.

However, putting it as a "triumph" story and making it emotional might then make me look self loving

I see what you mean. We might be able to run a piece about online glitches and include Generation: 4000, but that would be next issue.
