Ok, so me and rab are making another map. But unlike the last maps (The Adventures of Revesila, Buttercup Laboratories and The Intergalactic Adventures of Revesila) this one isn't an adventure map. This is a mini-game.
Basically it should work like this iPhone game, FallDown.
The ball would be the player, and the platforms would be layers of blocks. But we need a way so that players can go out. To do that we would have a lava source which starts flowing down, which acts like the top of the iPhone's screen. But the lava doesn't kill us or anything. As it flows down it breaks redstone torches on a wall. That sends a redstone signal, activating pistons which push out above the platforms. That means that if we were standing on those platforms when the lava got there we would be pushed off the platform into the abyss.
The one problem with this, though, is that as players fall they may be able to land down on lower platforms, but we'll try and work a way around that. Actually we could just make you start with half a heart and no hunger.
Also, in higher levels there could be powerups and stuff. Dispensers which when you walk past them shoot out speed OR slowness potions.
Here's a mockup:
So you press a button to start which also starts the lava flowing.
Also, 3rd person works for a more platformer like feel:

Not how I would do it. I'll think about a better way.

Sethbling made a FallDown game involving pistons pushing fencegates.
He has a video about it on YouTube.

I don't know about Minecraft, but...
Maybe 2 elevators could lift both the player, and the lava, seperately, and the lava being behind the player's elevators.
Then the doors of the 2 elevators open, and the lava flows.
