You can't compare Deadmau5 and Skrillex, for many reasons. One, they produce completely different types of music. Deadmau5 is progressive house, and Skrillex is dubstep. Another is that Deadmau5's music is just nice to listen to and it really puts you in a dreamlike state (sometimes I try falling asleep to Deadmau5--it actually works!). Skrillex, on the other hand, just sounds like he put a bunch of kitchen utensils in a blender and recorded it. I can think of a LOT of dubstep/electro music producers better than Skrillex that not many people know about (Bassnectar, Excision, Flux Pavilion).

dubstep is like background music, I don't see how you could listen to that.

Sorry bro, but Skrillex is brostep. In fact, most of the dubstep that you listen to nowadays is considered brostep (Flux, Feed Me, Datsik, Excision, xKore, Skeptiks, etc.)

Actually Bassnectar, Excision and Flux Pavillion are quite well know. Skrillex is just an iconic image in EDM, he produces many different genres.
