Today, NASA landed a new rover on Mars, Curiosity. It's the first rover to have a designated landing spot (which they hit)!
It was pretty cool watching it, or at least NASA's video simulation, land. It started sending back data immediately, we could see pictures pop up on their screens.
I just hope there weren't any cats on Mars.

For me it was yesterday.
I saw it live.
Classic.

This is a big moment for us. No, we haven't touched the surface of Mars using our own hands, but I think what's important is that we're exploring, and we're on track. It brings joy to me, seeing us explore the universe, and gather data that will be helpful in the future.
Very cool.

I didn't see it, I'll watch it on YouTube now though.

Pretty cool, and everything was robotic. As explained by a flight engineer, it takes 14 minutes to transmit data between Mars and Earth at the speed of light. Therefore, any human reaction and control to Curiosity would be at least a 28 minute delay: 14 for the information to get to Earth, an unknown amount of time to troubleshoot the problem, and 14 minutes to get the data back to Curiosity. If you've ever had lag in a video game, think of that x1000.

No, I didn't actually see it land, I only saw the team land it.

It's interesting that around 90% of the computers that the experts used were Macs. Actually, they were given a choice between a PC, Mac or Linux. Check out these pics

But let's not get off track
I didn't see the landing, but I did try to find some articles about it on news websites, but couldn't find any

If you could have the government pay for your computer, why wouldn't you take the more expensive, better-equipped one?
