What were the text-based games?

I keep hearing about the text based games. I even looked at them once. Why are they separate? All the mods on them treat the forum as if they're doing ballet on a mine field. Before myy imagination gets carried away and i start thinking i've unearthed an ancient conspiracy-
What were the text based games?
What is this 'thing' that happened?
Why are they where they are?
I'm hoping someone from the scratch team, a mod, an ex-mod or some really experienced scratcher will answer me.

Re: What were the text-based games?

I think it was that the TBGs increased your post count. People started abusing the TBGs to increase their post count. So, the admins made it a separate forum, so that you have an entirely separate TBG post count.

You can read about why the TBGs were made separate here.
