I just checked back on FiMFiction because I haven't in ages, turns out Anthropology ended. The ending was quite disappointing imo, just like the last few episodes, they just seemed so forced. hmm

Since it seems we're still arguing over weegee, roll I feel compelled to say something. For one, crying "hate" against anyone that disagrees with you is not productive or conducive to discussion, so please try to respond better in the future. As for the rest of us, continuing to argue isn't going to do any good, so I'd like to ask that we don't let this drag on. It takes two to argue.

So, a few weeks ago my mom was looking for cartoons in Chinese that were dubbed and weren't really stupid so I could watch them to learn Chinese, and all we could find was random baby cartoons.

It turns out that there's a Taiwanese version of MLP (which uses the same words but writes them differently in subtitles), so now I have an excuse to watch pony cartoons all the time!

Also, listening to a Chinese person try to say "yee-ha" and "cool" (which in Chinese is just an English loanword) is ridiculously funny.

Well, I asked my mom, and here's her explanation:

A long time ago, before the 1940's, everywhere (the mainland, Taiwan, and everywhere else) used the traditional way of writing it, but sometime in the 50's or so, the mainland government decided to simplify it (according to Wikipedia, because there wasn't very good education and literacy rates were low). However, Taiwan kept the traditional version because their government is different and something something independence (some other places kept it too for various reasons). On the mainland it's still used in some places, but mostly only because it looks prettier.

Fun fact: The Taiwan version of Fluttershy's name is "Rou Rou", which means "soft, supple". It's kind of creepy and really dumb. But the voice actor is really perfect. Same with Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Hoity Toity. I just wish there were more episodes on Youtube.

No, their names are mostly translations or literally what they are. Like Pinkie's name just sounds like Pinkie ( 碧琪, translated it means something to do with jade) and Applejack's name is the word for apple (苹果）and some words that sound like "jack" (嘉兒). And then there's Rou Rou, which is the word for "soft" made into a nickname o_o

There's a lot of values dissonance in the show though. Like, in Suited for Success, in the part where Rarity offers them dresses - read this. That blog post describes things pretty much perfectly.

Exactly, it was the obvious ending in a way, though much less in detail than the rest of the story.
