I never said that. I just said Pac-Man and Pong are terrible.

@CheckItNow:

Ah, I rate them on enjoyment, not importance. Pong was successful, yes. It used to be one of the best games, yes. But not anymore, people have made much much more fun games.

I know, you might hae gotten confused, because that was meant for soup.

I know, you might hae gotten confused, (and I never check this thread), but what I said was meant to be sarcastic.

Do you really think I would go around talking like that?  yikes
'
Anyway, you really do need to consider the enjoyment of a game in this list. Also, amount of constant enjoyment. Minecraft is really fun but many parts ARE very grindy and simply done so that you can enjoy another aspect. And while yes, Pong isn't the most fun game around, it LAUNCHED the industry as a succesful commercial concept AND is still pretty enjoyable as a trial of skill. Pac-Man is still very fun, but I would say that I may arguably replace that with Mrs. Pac-Man now due to the implementation of an intelligent A.I. in that one. Super Mario Bros. is still an AMAZINGLY fun game, it may not hold up graphically but the enjoyment you get from has not by any means diminished. Tetris is still an incredibly fun, and challenging game, too.

Also, I did feature a couple of newer games (MK7 and Donkey Kong Country Returns) but thinking about it, I would include those while adding important predecessors. Obviously, the first MarioKart to set the precedent for Mario Kart 7 (IMO, the best Mario Kart I have played) and Donkey Kong (to introduce the character) and Donkey Kong Country (to introduce Country Returns concept).

I might also put on there Minecraft now, honestly. It's one of the breakout hit indie games that really made living off your indie game viable and added some popularity to the indie scene.

Then, there's Roller Coaster Tycoon which really remains as one of the best managerial simulators ever made.

Also, Civilization for being an amazing strategy and conquest game.

I'm certain there's more but that's what I can think of right now.

Re: The 500 Greatest Video Games of All-Time

Okay well lemme say for the record that Minecraft, although it is a good game, it does not exactly hold up as "greatest video game of all time". It's certainly a groundbreaking game but at times I feel that the game mechanics either become too simple or even too convoluted. I've actually completely lost track of what they're adding to the game, and my friend said "Dude there are fireworks in Minecraft" and I said "Wait what".

Anyways I very much agree with Soup right now, Civilization is truly one of the best in the strategy genre.

So let me run down each game that I find to be truly the greatest games:

Half-Life (I'm surprised that there's little mention of this)
Super Mario Bros. (the NES version)
Pong (I've actually made a Scratch version of this which I'm quite proud of, Al Alcorn has played it himself, but that's a long story)
Pac-Man
Civilization
SimCity (this game really is the best in the "simulation" genre, Roller Coaster Tycoon is also cool, but man, SimCity, can't wait for the new game to come out)

Nah, I still gotta go with RCT. I mean, SimCity 3000 (the only one I played) is pretty amazing (though I haven't played it recently, lost my disc), but Rollercoaster Tycoon is a lot more fun to me.

Elaborate on getting the creator of Pong to play your version? (Hack the Future?)

Regardless, my five favorite games are:

5.The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
4.Portal 2
3.Pokémon Black 2
2.Bastion
1.Tales of Symphonia

As you can see, my vote for greatest game is Tales of Symphonia.
