It depends on what you want: iOS, or Android? I say you should get the iTouch since iOS has more apps, but if you prefer Android, get the Nexus.

I've never used a Nexus 7. It depends if you like the screen big or small.

I would say that since you have plenty of time before Christmas, you should wait until mid September. It is rumored that Apple is going to release an iPad Mini (a tablet with a screen size of 7", between the full iPad and the iPhone/iPod Touch) along with the iPhone 5 in Spetember. That would be a better comparison than the iPod Touch to the Nexus 7.

IPod Touch.

Nah...
-If you want great portability, apps and music, go with the iPod touch.
-If you want the same thing except less portability for a bigger screen, go with the [soon to come] iPad mini.
Never the Nexus 7.

You dont get more music with the iPod Touch you buy it, and you can find a lot online then sync it to your device.

I'm not really talking about the songs themselves, just listening to music in general.

Do you have some pointless aversion to the Android platform?
Android has:
-More customization
-Google Play store (with many more free apps and indie games, movies, books, music, live wallpapers)
-Open source
-Nexus 7 is cheap
Besides, I wouldn't say Nexus 7 isn't portable. You could easily take it with you without much hassle in a travel case for it with a shoulder strap.

Listening to music on a tablet is a little bit awkward. My iPad is now my main music player (replacing a normal MP3 player) and I use it in cars or things like that, but if you are on the go you can't put it in your pocket and listen to music or something. I might see if I can find a way to put my headphones through my backpack.

Downside of iPod:
- iTunes. That piece of rubbish is just....
- Price. DUH
- Apple Fanboys. Get swarmed.
Downside of Nexus:
- Not easy to carry around.
Which one would better suit you?

I bet you have never used a Nexus 7 in your LIFE, Steve.

- Many reports of problems and bugs
- Many apps are not compatible with it
- Doesn't replace a laptop, it's not a good size for productivity but not small enough for your pocket
And much more...

Wait until the end of September...rumors have it that the earliest either of those things will be out is September 22nd.

If you want a tablet you can get one ( nexus, iPad mini) but they seriously don't fit in your pocket. I'd say go for the iPod touch.

Steve, stop acting so falsely superior/bashing on non-Apple products.

Why does Apple have a 4g iPod Touch? Isn't that the whole point of an iPhone?

Why exactly do people hate iTunes? Is it because it's made by Apple? It is a place to buy and play music. It isn't something that you have to use. The only times I have needed to use iTunes was to transfer videos onto my iPad, and I had an overall good experience.
The iPod Touch is cheaper than the Nexus 7.
You can use an Apple product without being a fanboy, you know.

Personally I think that 7" is really small for a tablet. I've never been a fan of the idea of using a touchscreen on a smartphone (especially to type - *shudders*) or even a small tablet. A small tablet is too small to be a comfortable tablet (in my opinion) but too big to put in your pocket. The iPad screen size is just right IMO.

4G as in 4th Generation
And yea, iTunes is awesome. I have a hard time finding a decent music player for my Fire with custom Jelly Bean on it. Obviously I can't use Google Music because I don't live in the US.
I've also found that typing is slightly better on the iTouch than on the Fire, because unlike the iPad where you can almost touch type, the Fire is a very akward size. You can't type with your thumbs like on an iTouch, and you can't touch type like on an iPad. You're stuck with find and peck and hope my finger doesn't misses

That brings me to another problem I have with small Android tabets: their screen ratios are weird. They're too tall and not wide enough. I prefer the aspect ratio of the iPad just like I prefer the 16:10 screen ratio of Macs over the 16:9 ratio of most Windows computers.
