Technically, since The Pirate Bay's servers are in Sweden, where there are no piracy laws, it's "legal". I used to pirate, though I don't anymore. Really, it's not like you'll get arrested for going on TPB and getting something that you want.

I love their legal responses.

For your information, no Swedish law is being violated.

Please don't sue us right now, our lawyer is passed out in an alley from
too much moonshine, so please atleast wait until he's found and doesn't
have a huge hangover...
You're free to demand anything you want. So are we. We demand that you
cease and desist sending letters like this, since they're frivolous and
meaningless. Where should I send the bill for the consumed diskspace and

Here's what they said to Apple:

just ridiculous.
There are SOOOOOO many funnier ones there

Certainly a dillema, but still. If they get mad for you doing the right thing, then fine. They have no right to be mad, they were breaking the law, but if you keep quiet and don't try and get him to stop, you are breaking the law by affiliation. Your choice.
Uh they absolutely have a right to be mad, would you be mad if someone you thought was a friend tried to put you in jail?
They were still trying to break the law, and got caught. No right to be mad at you for doing the right thing, end of story.

I'd just talk to your parents about it, and together decide what the right thing to do is.

I believe that I have a first amendment right to be mad at whoever I want for whatever reason I want, regardless of whether the reason is good or not.

What, so someone can't be mad about going to jail?
That makes no sense. Just because they broke the law doesn't mean they can't be upset.

Uh no your friend has no right to be mad at you he was breaking the law and as we all know the law is the only right thing!!! It does not matter that you will no longer have friends because at least you are obeying the law and the law is right and the law is just!!!

Yes, BUT what if those 40% were trying out Marks music. 20% decided they liked it, and decided to buy his other albums. Let's say Mark has 6 Albums. Now, I'm not that good at math, but that means that Mark just made an extra 1,200,000. Now obviously the full 40,000 people aren't going to buy all of his albums, but let's say on average, each person then goes and buys an Album from him. That's still 200,000 dollars that he wouldn't have gotten if those people wouldn't have pirated to begin with.Taking the albums into account, atleast $600,000 would have been pirated, and that is if the 2nd to 6th albums were less popular than the 1st. Let's say Mark used 10% of his money on taking care of his very hungry family for a couple of months. Then, 20% goes into advertising. 30% goes into the making of the CD's. 20% goes into employees, and 20% is taken away in various taxes. That leaves him absolutely no money to be able to buy or rent a $600,000 skyscraper which would have been the headquarters for his music empire.
It doesn't matter how much he "still gets", because if piracy was allowed then everyone would do it and that amount he "still gets" is gone. Essentially, encouraging piracy causes more people to do it if you say "oh they still have all that other money, don't worry" and therefore making profit for the artistic creators smaller and smaller.
So no one read this?

So what do you guys think about extracting audio from official (or non official), music videos? I do this often with youtube-mp3.org
My main issue with that is that the sound is terrible. The only way to get anything decent sounding with YouTube is to download the HD MP4 video, transcode it to FLAC with VLC, made edits in Audacity, and then encode as a 320kbps CBR or V0 VBR MP3. I mean, seriously.
Uh... youtube-mp3 has an awesome quality.
I think he's talking about mp3s in general.
I use youtube-mp3.org for instrumental's of songs for my parodies. But I don't get actual songs like that.

I'd personally rather have integrity than friends, and to have that integrity it means obey the law, unless the law goes against God's law, ect. For the rest of you, the law is what you should obey and uphold, regardless of consequence. No one said it would be easy!

What about the states where there are such obscure laws that still exist, but just aren't being dealt with? Things like how men with mustaches can't kiss women on the lips in public.

I'm talking about youtube-mp3. mp3s are alright, best if they're at least V0 or I guess 256kbps CBR.

I forget where I read this but I seem to remember something about "If your friend is doing stuff that goes against your morals and makes that a condition of the friendship then he's not really your friend"
I think maybe something sorta like this applies here- maybe "If our friend is doing illegal or immoral stuff maybe you should try and get him to stop and if he doesn't try hanging out with different people."
I still think it's just not morally right to turn in a good friend to the police- and they most certainly would have a right to be upset about it.
Also I really don't understand why anyone would rather have integrity than friends but I guess we don't think the same way
EDIT: Yay 333th post

I use a plugin called Video2mp3 that allows me to download the audio straight from videos on Youtube. It has great quality, better than most songs on The Pirate Bay.

I've seen you active in two threads that I follow recently, and two times you have brought your religion into it for no apparent reason.
I hate having other people, meaning the people who right the laws, set my morals for me. Just because it is the law does not mean that I must support it, and does not mean that I must turn someone in "on a matter of integrity." I wouldn't turn in a runaway slave if I found them hiding on my property just because the law said I had to.

A. People have different views on these kinds of things.
B. You don't have to agree with rules, and you don't have to even follow them, but if you don't follow them, there may be consequences.
