I'm currently running Windows 8 Release Preview and Xubuntu on my Windows 7 laptop using Oracle VirtualBox! Discuss the awesomeness of virtualization here!

I'm planning on running Ubuntu or some other Linux OS on a VM.
Any ideas on which OS I should run? My laptop's an Acer laptop, 3GB DDR3 RAM, AMD Dual-core C50 processor, running Win7 Home Premium, and the hard drive space is not a problem (320 GB HDD) .
Any ideas would be appreciated

Xubuntu is great, it's a form of linux based off of ubuntu that doesn't take much power or speed to run. It's interface is close enough to windows to be easy to understand.

Where's a good place to find a MS-DOS iso?
Mine was from osvirtual.net. So was the OS/2 iso, but it was corrupted. IDK if the download goofed or the iso was corrupted in the first place.

I wish I knew what that all meant. At this rate of not knowing anything about programming and electronics like this, I'll never work at a video game company. I can only dream of knowing what this meant.

What VM software are you using?

I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.something-rather and Windows 8 in VMware (because they both will only run in it on my computer). I have also previously run ReactOS, Ubuntu, Lubuntu, and Kubuntu in VMs. ReactOS was probably the most interesting as well as the least stable.

I've had android on my virtualbox

Gah, this sounds so nooby, but can someone show me how to do this. Toshiba sold me a fake Windows 7 Home Premium License and I have lost the ability to do almost anything personal (I cant set wallpapers, bridge networks, use any microsoft programs (forget that, I got Adobe now ) and plenty other stuff). So any knowledge would be appreciated.

You could of course, Google it but whatever.
1. Download Virtualbox, it's the free one, and the best. (Debatable, but let's not go there).
2. Install Virtualbox.
3. Click New...
4. Click continue...
5. Type a name for the VM. Something to help you recognise it.
6. Choose the OS from the drop down boxes and click continue.
7. Choose amount of RAM for the VM. Make sure you have at least 1GB left for the host operating system, as well as giving enough RAM for the guest OS. Most pre-2000 OSs will run fine with 512MB, whereas anything after that requires at least 1GB. Anything in the past 5 years would be better with 2GB or more. Linux is a exception, but depending on the distro, you can choose around 512MB - 2GB. Click continue.
8. Click continue again. Nothing to see here.
9. New window will pop up. Click continue.
10. Click continue.
11. Now you get to choose the maximum size of the virtual hard disk the OS will be installed on. Like RAM, it depends on the OS, but anything between 10GB - 100GB is fine. I usually give mine 20GB regardless of the OS. Click continue.
12. Now click create.
13. Click create again.
14. You'll see a virtual machine on the sidebar. Select it, then click 'Start' from the top bar.
15. You'll be met with a first run wizard.
16. Click continue.
17. Choose the .iso .cdr or .dmg file you downloaded, or if you're using and actual DVD/CD, just leave it as Host Drive. Click continue.
18. Click start.
19. Click 'OK' on any dialogs, and wait for your OS to boot. You'll be met by an install OS dialog, where you can just follow the prompts to install your OS

tl;dr? Just keep pressing continue

if they sold you a fake license you should immediately report it at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtote … eport.aspx

Virtualbox 4.1.8. It is a little outdated, but why update when a new update will be out practically the next day?
@Sep: I only see 2 downloads on this page. If you have VMware or Virtualbox 4.x, go for the VMware image. If you don't have either, or wanna install it yourself, go for the floppy images at the bottom of the post.

Is it Mac OS X 10.2? Cause that's what I'm trying to run in PearPC.

I was clueless of what to do a year ago when it happened, is the "immediately" just for emphasizing?

Yea, report it now even.
Just to make sure, press windowsButton + R, then type winver, press enter, and tell me what it says.
