I totally get how many of you'd feel this way. In fact, I'll admit that I'm going to miss the old (current) site. Not because the new site won't be better - (I honestly believe it will be). But because we've all spent so much time on the site as it is now - and have grown to love it the way it is.
When I was 12 I moved from a house I'd lived in most of my life into a different one. In a lot of ways it was nicer: more space, newer, it even had more light. But I still totally missed the old one because I'd spent so much time growing up there, and the place meant so much to me.
So it doesn't matter if the place you are going is nicer - you are still leaving a place that you've really loved for a long time. I think it's a similar thing with the transition to 2.0. And while I think eventually it'll be awesome, in the short term it'll be tough - and to some extent, kind of sad (but also happy at the same time? I dunno, it's hard to explain..)
I've been thinking that we'll need to have some kind of sendoff for the old site - like a going away party. But I'm not sure what that should look like, or how it'd work. If any of you have ideas about that, please comment me about it.Well said I believe the term you're looking for is 'melancholy'. I think we should have a SDS for saying good-bye to the old site!
Or we could feature projects that say goodbye. Ask the curator to feature projects, and yes, we could have a SDS. We could also have a link at the top of page that links to a topic in the Announcements topic that will explain it (remember the Alpha thread, it has turned into one of the biggest threads ever!)
But, anyway's, very well said Lightnin. (P.S, we could also do something on this wiki).
Please reply what you think Lightnin. Also, one more thing, is there any estimated time when the OFFICIAL 2.0 will come out. I feel so anxious. I think it is about time you give an estimated time. (And don't just say this year). I don't need it down to the minute of the day. Just maybe what month.

Give 'em a break, he gets asked that 60 times a day. I heard a second alpha/beta version might be out in late August. That means it'll probably be a month or two after that.
@Wes64: Good idea, I was just about to say that myself. "Make a project celebrating your time on Scratch, and your favorite memories" would be quite fun, and I have a feeling it'd be the most popular SDS ever.

I agree that there should be a "Memories of Scratch" SDS.

Ok, everybody make a "Scratch Memories" SDS idea! Then put it on the SDS idea gallery.

I very much like both the idea of an SDS, and of featuring projects that say goodbye.
Estimation: Believe me, I would give you a date if I could! But I myself don't yet know. Each new feature we implement generates a need to make many decisions that we hadn't realized we'd need to make. So we're not at the point where we can put things on a schedule. I will tell you we're planning on doing another brief open period at the end of August - but as it stands now, that'll still be alpha. There'll need to be a beta period to work out kinks at some point, as well as gather translations. So: not soon. But we will eventually get a timetable, and when we do we'll let Scratchers know. So it's not going to be a situation where you wake up, logon, and all of a sudden it's Scratch 2.0.
Hope that helps!

Ah, cool. Is this beta going to be like the alpha, with the same closed group of testers?

Lightnin - in the next open period will all our projects and such be up-to-date? Last time they were all from January, and I couldn't really get a feel for how my projects would work because they were all old projects.

Alas, derailment of the thread has occurred! Apologies for any part I have played in it.
To answer these questions, I shall have to make a new thread, maybe early next week....
But on this thread, let's keep on topic, shall we?

Lol. Anyway, I want Scratch 2.0 but I don't like the layout of the new page.

I like 2.0 but I'd like the offline to remain in squeak. I don't always have internet access.

I'm pretty sure that you'll still be able to use Scratch 1.4 to make your projects, though I don't know if we'll be able to opt out from the new layout.

Ah, we will fix that in Scratch 2.0. Some things I *won't* miss about Scratch 1.4, like the need to constantly reset the zoom when opening costumes in the paint editor... *grumble grumble.* I always want things actual size to start with!

Featuring projects that say goodbye? GREAT idea! My quitting project will be AWESOME on the front page!

first of all, i think you had some sort of brain flop when you wrote "featured projects that day goodbye" because that makes no sense whatsoever :P
second of all, theyd most likely only feature projects you submit to be featured, probably even make it an sds theme
i wont quit when 2.0 comes out, 1.4 will still be valid and i have high expectations for the new site

But, really, 2.0 is TERRIBLE.
