APFs Forum Tips - A helpful series for active forumers!
other tutorials: Suggestions
Hey Scratchers
This is a quick guideline to show Scratchers how to post awesome advertisements for their projects.
Information
Remember to follow demosthenes show and tell forum guidelines.
Just because it is easier for you, I will post them here.
1. Post only topics that are relevant to show and tell.
This includes advertising your galleries. projects. etc.
2. After you have posted a topic don't do things that could be considered 'spam'. For example posting again and again on your own topic in an attempt to get more views is 'spam'.
3. Don't double post on anyones topics.
Double posting is when you post twice in a row with no reply in between.
4. Don't 'necropost' on topics. Necroposting is when you post on a topic that hasn't received attention in a very long time.
5. Don't flame or troll.
Flaming is when you get angry at someone and you post a potentially hurtful reply directed at them. Trolling is similar is is the act of posting inflammatory, irrelevant, or controversial material.
How to post an effective advertisement
Make a good title
Give your topic name a good title. Make it something that users browsing the forums will get hooked to and want to read about the project and play it. An example of a good advertisement title is RedRocker227s thread here - "Unwind Your Mind!" - The Most Challenging Riddle Game On Scratch!
Leave a good description and information
You are going to need to leave some information instead of just leaving a link to your project or saying "Check out my project!" For example if it is a game you can post the aim of the game and how to play. Or you may want to leave screenshots, ratings or any other creative way of advertising your project you think could work. An awesome example of a great show and tell thread with good information is again one by RedRocker227 - his thread on his game "Unpredictable!" The thread gained an astonishing 1400 views and the project 1200+.
Advertising in your signature
If you are an active forum poster then a good idea would be to advertise your project in an eye catching image in your signature. Here is an example of a good banner:
There are plenty of signature shops in the Requests forum if you look around, but personally I think it is better to make your own. Good free programs to make signatures include Paint.NET and GIMP. You can find tutorials by googling them. Have fun creating a signature!
Make your project worth looking at
Another thing you could (and probably should) do is make your project decent enough for scratchers to look at. If you are not very experienced with the program here are some links to helpful programming topics:

personally i think we need more control over how many of these advert tips are made. this is like the third one i've seen in the show and tell forums and this doesn't advertise a project therefore it shouldn't be allowed in show + tell anyway, but saying that it is the clearest and most informative version of it I've seen

Nice! I like your section on advertising in your signature - I don't see that covered anywhere else and it's a really helpful technique. You might want to cover the BB code you need to add to the signature to make an image link - or perhaps that's covered somewhere else and you could just link to it
I've added this topic to the iTopics list for the forum.
