Someone is going around creating spam accounts and spamming in projects receiving popularity. they're naming their accounts random numbers/letters and posting comments extremely similar to the following:
"accept credit card and so mang payment = = netetrader.com Air Jordan (1-24) shoes $35 UGG BOOT $50 Nike shox (R4, NZ, OZ, TL1, TL2, TL3) $35 Handbags ( Coach Lv fendi D&G) $35 T-shirts (polo, ed hardy, lacoste) $16 Jean (True Religion, ed hardy, coogi)$34 Sunglasses ( Oakey, coach, Gucci, Armaini)$15 New era cap $16 Bikini (Ed hardy, polo) $18 FREE SHIPPING = = = netetrader.com"
This comment has been posted to my game, Cyber Defense, about 3 times now. They KNOW they're spamming, so there's no sense in telling them to stop. After their account is shut down, they'll just make a new one. This needs to stop! Scratch is an online community for sharing projects with one another, not a spam dump!

I have received them too. I think the Scratch team should give them an IP ban because they have made several accounts now. Just keep flagging them ;P

That's what I was suggesting. An IP ban. Should have included that. But then all they have to do is got to a different computer. Computers these days are easily accessible, and do cell phones even have IP addresses? Because I know scratch is accessible from a smart phone. I think the scratch team should maybe think about a new filtration system for spam.

IP addresses are given to entire networks (as opposed to single computers). The problem with IP address identification nowadays is that most people have dynamic addresses, which change every once in a while (mine changes every day) to free up available addresses for other people.
Every device that connects to the internet has an IP, from a computer, to a cell phone, to a modern car. The IP always depends on where that device is connected to. If you have WiFi in your home, your cell phone will connect to that. Otherwise, phones will connect via radio to a centralised operator for your phone provider. This poses yet another problem to identification: what if a guy with my same provider gets banned on the other side of the country? I also get banned for nothing!!
