I have been in scratch for a very long time, and I've noticed that there are several graffiti artists in the scratch community. What do I mean? I've been noticing that several people have been putting tags in other people's projects that DON"T have to do with that project. Some popular examples are "waffles," "hi" and their nickname/REAL name. This fourm is for victims of this "tag graffiti" to discuss their encounters, and possible culprits of this crime. I am an expert hacker, detective and secret keeper, so any questions go to me or one of the administrators (the only one I know of is andresmh, but there may be more.) Together, we may solve this case!

Since each project allows you to click on a "taggers" link, it should not be difficult to find at least some of the individuals responsible for "graffiti" tags.

Yeah, I've noticed the graffiti. Some of it is not annoying and it's actually quite interesting to see how some tags spread.

There are two that I have am really curious by: "waffles" and "peanut butter and jelly time".

I haven't had the time to look at the logs and so on to see how they started, maybe you can do some detective work to understand how they started? You could ask others or come up with your own detective strategies wink

Yes! I knew that I was forgetting one! "Peanut butter jelly time" and "waffles" are the two most popular grafitti tags, and they are on almost every 10 day or older project! Andresmh, I will do anything I can to put a stop to this, and I hear that things are starting to get ugly with the complaints. Anyways, you can count on me!

PS: This kinda reminds me of my favorite book, Half Moon Investigations. Weird.

PPS: If you think I might be doing something wrong, like if you want me to leave a certain tag alone, go ahead and tell me. You're the scratch expert, and I'll stop if you say something's wrong.

Exciting news! I just did a quick lookover of a few projects that were tagged "waffles," and when I tried to look at the taggers list, it wouldn't let me! So either the taggers list has a bug in it, or someone doesn't want to get caught putting graffiti on scratch. Spooky, eh?

PS: I'm going to make a project advertising this topic, so we can get more people in it.

I agree. 'Peanut butter jelly time' and 'waffles' are really getting me confused, so unless the project has anything to do with peanut butter jelly time or waffles then the tag is useless, and described as graffiti.

I don't think all graffiti tags are bad. Personally, I think "waffles" and "peanut butter and jelly time" are funny and harmless. On the other hand, I think it's bad when someone uses a real tag that people would use to look for projects in a project that is completely unrelated to the tag.

So I think there are two types of inaccurate tags:

1. Tags that categorize a project wrongly. For example, imagine there is a project about harry potter tagged as "pokemon". This is not so good because if people are looking for pokemon projects and they find a harry potter project is a annoying.

2. Imaginary tags. For example, imagine there is a project about harry potter that gets tagged as "waffles". This is not so bad because, I think, it's very unlikely for people to be looking for projects tagged as "waffles". On the positive side the fact that people can tag silly things makes people feel more in control of the site and feel part of a community.

That's my take on this issue.

Hmm... I'll take all of these opinions into account. Let me think here... OK, I'm ready.

Andresmh- I will leave "waffles" and "peanut butter jelly time" alone, and instead I will look for the type of grafitti you suggested.

That's all I can think of for now. I'll post again when I come up with something new.

Alright, I've got it. We'll take a vote. Every time you add a reply to this topic, at the end tell which tags you want gone. I'll make a graph on MS Excel, and we'll see how the results come out. Everyone alright with that?

unfortunatelly there is not much you can do to remove inaccurate tags because only the project owner can delete tags

what you could do is help in tagging projects! that would be awesome! There are so many projects without tags.

For example: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Wulfgang/43630
I would tag that as "animation", "bible", "religion", "Christianity".
Not that I am advocating for religious projects, just showing an example of a well made project that is not tagged.

Also see this project http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/nyuen/43636 needs tags. I would tag this as "dress up", "interactive", "clothes". It is important to try to use the same tags that have been used before. Here is a list of the most popular ones: http://scratch.mit.edu/tags

I *think* peanut butte jelly time' belongs to happymule, and midjet97 said himself that he had made 'waffles,' on my 'build the titanica' he was the only one besides me who put tags on, and 'waffles' was next to his name. I don't feel this is excactly grafffiti, just so people have thier own personal list of thier favourite projects so they can play them, and can easily get to them. It is not a bad thing, just a shortcut to certain projects of thier interest.

The "favorites" list is intended for that purpose, and has the further advantage of letting people see which projects many people have added to a favorites list.

I put waffles in a lot of my games since a lot people tag it with it. It's kinda like a "Waffles Club".

Well, I figured out three likeley people who started the waffles. You will probably be suprised at one of them: Archmage. But I do not disagree with waffles, so I think a solution for your problem would be to make a random tag game. It is a project where you let people randomly tag all they want.

PabloJ here. I've started scratch in 3rd grade and started sharing my stuff in forth grade. I have been watching other projects and saw the views were over a thousand. I want know how you people get more views than me. What projects would you guys like for me to create?
