Well, the release of 1.4 right now is more actually just a last minute testing thing, in which users who agree to download and install it can test for any bugs that might occur. If you're worried about losing your projects, just save your projects on something like a pen drive before initially installing (just in case).

Just install it in another folder (I'm using 1.3.1 and 1.4RC in the same time), and you can keep project out of Scratch folder...
PS. How to set turbo-speed mode in 1.4?
