Whenever I add a large amount of scripts to a sprite, Scratch starts going really slow. And I mean REALLY REALLY slow. Well, the script area does anyway. The rest of Scratch works fine: all the script areas for sprites which have a small amount of scripts, the Stage, the paint editor... the only things that go really slow are the script areas for the sprites which have lots of scripts. My laptop has Windows XP. It's rather old, but Scratch 1.3 worked perfectly when I had that. I know that this topic came up a while ago, but because I left Scratch for a long time, I never found out whether or not it got solved. How am I supposed to make projects properly if the script area lags every time a sprite starts getting a large amount of scripts? It'll take a million years just to make one project. I just played someone else's project, which included a large amount of scripts, and it was made with 1.4, so surely that user didn't have any problems? I really don't want to have to switch back to 1.3... Please help.

This happens to everybody, and you should know it was a problem in 1.3 too. It's a Squeak problem, where modifying a script requires Squeak to redraw it. When a script is huge, that takes a long time. Try breaking your scripts into small pieces when you're working on them and then recombining them when it's time to run them.

Okey dokey, thanks again Harakou. I thought it might've been to do with my laptop. It's 5 years old, and very dusty, however much I clean it.
I guess if I had to switch back to 1.3, a lot of other people would've had to as well. OK then, back to work it is! Happy Nearly-Easter

I had a similar problem, and it sped up a bit if I changed the variable display or left scratch open for a bit. Don`t know why it works, but it does
