It would be possible, but I agree.

I would like to see basic text effects (bold, underline, italic), color effects, and formatting, but I think that should be it. Scratchblocks and smilies would just get spammed all over.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE WOULD BE PLENTY OF PEOPLE WHO MAKE EVERY COMMENT LOOK LIKE THIS

Ive never seen any of that on the forums... what makes you think that will happen elsewhere?
Maybe we could restrict the usage of the formatting to people with the "scratcher" status...

there are more mainsiters than there are forumers meaning theres a greater chance of ridiculous colours and bold and all that happening

Yeah, and then we just flag it as spam. There are more ups than downs to having formatting. At least have it so when I make line breaks, when I post it they are still there. I hate it when I make a large comment and it turns itself into a wall-o-text.

Or like this.

I support.
And if they do spam with this feature, you flag them. If two users flag a comment, it'll get deleted automatically, so it should be easy to remove.

except once people discover it there could be thousands of users spamming with colours and stuff which would be a bit overwhelming
but line breaks are still a good idea, ive always felt they were needed

some of them wont even know what theyre doing is wrong
all the new people experimenting with the functions would be banned for colours

Line breaks would be cool though. Not so sure about the [img], [url], and [color] tags.

it wouldnt be that hard to have a link in the comments, like how it is on the forums.

what do you mean? this is a project to test out bbcode were talking about, a link to that under every comment would get pretty tedious

do you see in the post editor the link that says BBCode: on? Something like that.

The people that hang out on the forums are a lot more civilized than the people on the main site, if you haven't noticed
