Re: Multiplayer In Scratch 1.4: A video demonstration

127.0.0.1 is the "localhost" IP adress, it is an IP that always refers to the computer itself. So, when Scratch sends out all messages to the localhost, another session on the same pc can receive it. I am not sure how things work on Macs actually - I think it is only Windows.

Off Topic: Maybe I could make a game that can control another game. Like set the settings from 1 scratch session to another allowing you to control a game on another computer.. That would be cool...

Funny that you say that. In my video demo, the client program receives all of its variables from the host pc (my laptop). The client project has no control whatsoever over the movement and score variables. All the client pc does is tell the host if the up or down arrow keys are pressed.

You have to put someones IP in to play with someone. It's possible to have more than 2 online players.

They actually did. I think they took it off because it was way to complicated for New members to use it. Mesh has alot of Potential and will probably stay as an idea for future scratch versions.

NO! if its too complex for new scratch users then why don't the new scratch users not use it??  sad  and anyways if they really wanted to learn it that would be good and educational!

Even if you can use mesh, it will only support slow moving games. It has a real problem with fast moving games. Here are some ideas of what is possible

pictionary
checkers
chatrooms
simple tag games
Highscore boards

Nothing that has too many variables that update too quickly.

Checkers would be hard even to program in scratch 1.3 though... the Jumping and moving around would be hard. something like tic-tac-toe would be more possible, and a card game maybe, or pokemon-like battling. Rock-Paper-Scissors would be pretty easy. "waiting for other player"...

Actually I think it is pretty easy because all you have to do is make a board facing up then you your checker pieces and can have two costumes, one for king and the other for normal.

Maybe using snyff. They are taking out the new online features in scratch 1.4.
